Reicks races to second straight win at Cresco

CRESCO, Iowa (May 20, 2001) - Racing action at the Cresco Speedway in Cresco, Iowa, last Sunday night was sponsored by Ludeking Racing Supplies of Decorah, Iowa.

Modifieds were first to the track with heat wins going to Tim Heins and Dan Bohr. Danny Cole and Murray Keatley picked up the heat wins in the Hornet division. Stock Cars were up next with the heat wins going to Kevin Bidne and Ron Konkel. The Hobby Stock heat wins went to Steve Holthaus, Mike Vsetecka and Jeremy Moellers.

Lany Grube jumped out to the early lead in the Modified A-Main with Bohr right on his tail. On lap four, Bohr had front end damage to his car, ending his night. Heins was the next to test Grube, with Heins taking over the front spot just past the halfway point, and holding on for the win. Ryan York moved past Grube with two laps remaining to claim the second spot. Grube finished third followed by Ken Hofner in fourth and Brian Schrage in fifth.

Keatley and Cole battled each other for the front spot in the Hornet A-Main, with each driver taking turns in front. Keatley was in front at the checkered flag with Cole dropping to third after being past by Garry Guirud on the last corner. Bruce Schutttemeier and Dave Lickteig rounded out the top five.

Danny Jones escaped injury in the Stock Car A-Main when his car climbed the backstretch wall after contact with another car on the first lap. On the restart, Bidne held the lead until he ended up in the pits after sustaining front end damage to his race car. Four other drivers took their turns running up front until Konkel took over the front spot with five laps remaining and held on for the win. Troy Hansmeier finished second followed by Rodney Zubrod, Gerald Peter and Mike Bergan.

Tory Reicks made a fast move to the front of the pack in the Hobby Stock A-Main, moving from the middle of the pack to the front in one lap. A multi-car wreck on the second lap sent Eli Hershberger to the hospital with neck pains. His status was not known at press time. On the restart, Reicks looked to be running away for the win, until Holthaus worked his way into second. Reicks had too big of a lead for Holthaus to overcome, so Reicks picked up his second win in a row. Holthaus finished second followed by Kevin Donlan, Vsetecka and Brian Losen.
