Mitch Hovden won the Medieval USRA Stock Car main event.

Friday night provided another action-packed evening of racing at Fayette County Speedway in West Union, Iowa, as four USRA classes took to the 3/8-mile track in northeast Iowa.

For the first time since the season opener back on May 13, Decorah’s Mitch Hovden found victory lane in the Medieval USRA Stock Car division. The track points leader started on the front row, jumped out to the lead on lap one, and never looked back for the rest of the 20-lapper.

Both runner-up and third-place finishers Kevin Donlan (Decorah) and Brayden Gjere (Mabel, Minn.), respectively, advanced four spots in the race, while Dan Jones (Waukon) finished fourth and Jackson Vsetecka (Fort Atkinson) rounded out the top five.

Hovden Motorsports made it two-for-two in the USRA B-Mod division as Mitch’s younger brother, Dan (Decorah), won his fourth consecutive feature race at FCS.

He started sixth on the grid and quickly made his way up to third midway through the race before overtaking early leader Alex Zwanziger (Walker) and fellow Decorah driver Kyle Anderson for the lead after a restart.

Anderson went on to finish second, while Zwanziger was third. Brian Mahlstedt of Ionia finished fourth, while Colby Mann of Caledonia, Minn. took fifth.

After a short one-race “dry spell” of winning the USRA Hobby Stock feature at Fayette County Speedway, West Union’s Dylan Clinton parked his hot rod back in victory lane for the fifth time this season in six races.

Clinton started fourth in the race and quickly worked his way to second-place in the early laps. He eventually got around early leader Aaron Kleppe of Cedar Rapids to get the win.

Decorah’s Steve Larson finished second in his first appearance at the track, while Paul Seabrooke (Decorah) took third. Kleppe ended up finishing fourth, which is his best finish of the season so far, while last week’s winner Daryl Moss (West Union) rounded out the top five.

The Stahl family of Castalia continued its dominance at FCS this season as the family captured its fifth win of the season as Katie got her second win of the year. Stahl battled with fellow front row starter Isaiah Holzer (Holmen, Wisc.) throughout much of the feature, but went on to take the checkered flag first.

Holzer finished second, followed by his father, Justin Anderson (Holmen, Wis.), in third and unclue Jeremiah Anderson (La Crosse, Wis.) in fourth. Rounding out the top five and making it a true family affair in the top finishers as Brad Stahl took fifth.

Racing will return to Fayette County Speedway on Friday, June 24, with the Medieval USRA Stock Cars, USRA B-Mods and USRA Hobby Stocks in action as the track hosts the SLMR Late Models for what’s sure to be another great evening of racing.
