Donlan, Hovden, Clinton, Stahl are winners at Fayette County Speedway

Dylan Clinton won his third straight USRA Hobby Stock main event.

Dylan Clinton won his third straight USRA Hobby Stock main event.

There were a few familiar faces and a few new faces for the 2022 racing season in Victory Lane at Fayette County Speedway in West Union, Iowa, on Friday night.

In the most contested race of the evening, Castalia’s Brad Stahl got the win in the USRA Tuner class, making the Stahl family a perfect three-for-three on the season. Brad Stahl picked up the win at the season opener, while his wife, Katie Stahl, got the win last week.

The driver of the No. 35 Joker-themed hot rod battled with young gun Braiden Schaufenbuel throughout the main event. Schaufenbuel led several laps, but encountered lap traffic on the final two corners of the last lap to end up as the runner-up.

Max Heimbuch of Mason City came home third, while Katie Stahl was fourth. Rounding out the top five was rookie driver Dylan Lerch of West Union.

In the USRA Hobby Stock feature, the top two drivers to the checkered flag were the same as they had been in the first two weeks. In one of the most competitive classes at the ⅜-mile speedway as Dylan Clinton remained perfect to get his third win of the season, while Paul Seabrooke charged ahead 10 spots to remain perfect as the runner-up finisher.

In third was Calmar’s Junior Boyer, while Cresco’s Troy Hovey was fourth. Hovey worked his way to the top spot earlier in the 20-lap feature, but was sent to the back of the pack as the leader after encountering a car at the tail of the lead lap. In the last half of the race, he worked his way back to fourth after restarting 18th. In fifth was Ridgeway’s Randy Swatek.

Last week at the Fayette County Speedway and Winneshiek Raceway in Decorah, more than $3,100 was raised to be donated to Troy Andersen Racing and his family.

With a pair of return winners finding their way to Victory Lane in the Tuner and Hobby Stock features, a pair of drivers who are quite familiar with crossing the finish line first, but earned their first wins of the season at FCS came in the Stock Car and B-Mod feature races.

In the Medieval USRA Stock Car main event, Kevin Donlan of Decorah led it from wire to wire in his No. 33 Rage Chassis. Donlan took the checkered flag with a significant gap over runner-up finisher Dan Jones of Waukon. Jones moved ahead five spots in the race to earn the hard-charger title, while first-year Stock Car driver Jackson Vsetecka finished third to record his best finish in the class. In fourth was Chance Hillman, while Bryan Webb of Decorah turned his first laps in several years to take fifth place.

The USRA B-Mod feature win went to Decorah’s Dan Hovden who jumped ahead four spots to get win No. 1 of the season at the track. In second was Jason Schlangen of Cresco who advanced 10 spots in the race, while Kyle Anderson finished third. In fourth was Alex Zwanziger of Walker, while veteran Tim Heins took fifth.

The next race at Fayette County Speedway will be Friday night, June 3, as the speedway hosts its annual Kids Night. As with all weekly shows, admission is just $5 for adults and free for all kids 11 and under (with a paid adult).
