McDaniel, Jaurejui collect Father’s Day features at El Paso Speedway Park

EL PASO, Texas -- The crowd was blown away Friday night at the El Paso Speedway Park, and we aren’t talking about the wind. There were giveaways in celebration of Father’s Day with the USRA Stock Cars and USRA B-Mods in action.

As the first green flag waved in the USRA Stock Car main event, John McDaniel took the lead with Justin Lasiter close on his tail. Lasiter took the win in the heat but he was unable to catch McDaniel in the main.

After a caution with six laps to go, McDaniel left Lasiter in the dust and walked away with the trophy.

The USRA B-Mods were stop and go at the start, with Alex Gonzalez leading the pack. It may have been the full moon or because it was Friday the 13th, but drivers were seeing red.

With 20 laps to go, Paul Johnson spun out and John Carney Sr., with nowhere to go, slammed into Johnson, bringing the race to a stand still.

Another red was thrown with 12 laps to go as Frank Padia flipped upside down in turn 1.

Once they got going it looked like Gonzalez was going to take home his first win at his home track until an upset in the final lap, Mingo Jaurejui passed Gonzalez just in time to pass the checker flag first.

Next week come witness something you don’t see every day as drivers rip off their wings for the Non-Wing 360 “Wingless Warriors” race. Hitting the track as well are the Southwest Late Models, USRA Modifieds, USRA Stock Cars, Casa Nissan Legends Cars and Mini-Sprints.

You can get a family pack for two adults and four kids under the age of 16 for only $30. See you next week for a night out at the races.
