Wauge goes flag-to-flag for sixth USRA Modified win of season at Southern Oregon Speedway

CENTRAL POINT, Ore. -- Mark Wauge was not to be denied Saturday night at the Southern Oregon Speedway as he powered his USRA Modified around the clay oval in first place for the entire 40-lap feature event.

Saturday's $1,000-to-win event was a prelude to one of the biggest annual Dirt Modified events in the Western States.

Wauge was followed to the checkered flag by Scott Lenz in second and Justin Holt in third, with Preston Jones grabbing fourth.

Next Saturday, Aug. 25, there will be no racing as the track is getting some new materials in preparation for the 17th Annual Lon Skinner Memorial Modified extravaganza on Saturday-Sunday, Sept. 1-2, where dirt Modified drivers and fans from all over the Western United States will converge on Southern Oregon Speedway for this annual event.

The event is in honor of track promoter John Skinner’s father, Lon. Track officials are expecting around 80 race teams to compete for the $3,000-to-win purse, plus this year each driver qualifying for the feature event will receive at least $500. There are main events scheduled for both Saturday and Sunday, with Sunday’s feature going 100 laps.

Gates open at 4 p.m. with racing at 6 p.m. both days.

Saturday Admission: General (13-61) $15, Children 6-12, Seniors (62+), Veterans (with ID) $10, Reserved Seats $20, Kids under 6 free.
Sunday Admission: General (13-61) $20, Children 6-12, Seniors (62+), Veterans (with ID) $15, Reserved Seats $25, Kids under 6 free.
