SpeedWeek kicks off Friday at Mineral City Speedway


FORT DODGE, Iowa -- The Mineral City Speedway in Fort Dodge, Iowa, is set for a fast ‘n’ furious week of big action and big money with four nights of racing over the course of eight days.

It all kicks off this Friday, Aug. 17, with all five weekly racing divisions in action plus the return of the A-Mods. On Monday and Tuesday, Aug. 20-21, the Stock Cars, B-Mods and Hobby Stocks take center stage for the Great American Stock Car Shootout. SpeedWeek at Fort Dodge’s ‘Palace of Speed’ concludes Friday, Aug. 24, with Season Championships in all five divisions.

FRIDAY, AUGUST 17

All five weekly racing divisions – Stock Cars, B-Mods, Hobby Stocks, Econo Stocks and Hornets – will be in action on Friday, Aug. 17, along with the return of the A-Mods racing for $500 to win and $100 to start.

Gates open at 5 p.m., hot laps start at 7 and racing begins at 7:30. Adult grandstand tickets are $10, kids ages 13-16 are $6 and children under 13 get in for free. Pit passes are $25.

A-Mod rules for this event are flat tappet steel-headed engines only with no spoiler. Quick changes are allowed with an 8,000 rpm chip. Race format will be draw/redraw. Tires allowed for the A-Mod, Stock Car and B-Mod classes are American Racer KK-704 or Hoosier G-60. USRA track and national points will be awarded in all divisions.

There’s no license required and no track fees, just a pit pass, so come out to one of the raciest half-mile speedways in Iowa and have some fun while taking home some good cash too.

MONDAY-TUESDAY, AUGUST 20-21

On Monday and Tuesday, Aug. 20-21, the Stock Cars, B-Mods and Hobby Stocks take center stage for the Great American Stock Car Shootout. Stock Cars and B-Mods will pay $500 to win on Monday night while Hobby Stocks will pay $300 to win. The payoff explodes on Tuesday when Stock Cars and B-Mods will race for $1,000 to win with Hobby Stocks battling for a $600 top prize.

Gates open at 5 p.m., hot laps start at 7 and racing begins at 7:30. Grandstand tickets are $10 for adults, $6 for kids ages 13-16 and children under 13 get in for free both days. Pit passes are $30 each day. There is no entry fee for this event.

Drivers must race both days in order to race for the published purse on Tuesday. Drivers racing on Tuesday only will race for the Monday purse. USRA track and national points will be awarded to licensed drivers, but a USRA license is not required to compete in this event. Tires allowed for the Stock Car and B-Mod classes are American Racer KK-704 or Hoosier G-60.

FRIDAY, AUGUST 24

The final weekly event of the 2012 campaign is on Friday, Aug. 24, with Season Championships in all five weekly divisions plus Fan Appreciation Night featuring $1,000 Kids Money Drop. Stock Cars, B-Mods, Hobby Stocks, Econo Stocks and Hornets will be in action with season champions crowned following the final checkered flag.

Grandstand gates open at 5:00, hot laps start at 7:00 and racing begins at 7:30. Grandstand tickets are $5 for everybody 13 and older while children under 13 get in for free. Pit passes are $25.

That will wrap up the regular season at the Mineral City Speedway, with one special event left to close out the year. The Bruce Sommerfeld Memorial will be held Friday and Saturday, Oct. 5-6, with the finale for the Industrial Material Surplus Iron Man Challenge featuring USRA Stock Cars, USRA B-Mods and more.
