Miller earns Sunset Speedway Park win after epic USRA Modified feature

BANKS, Ore. -- Races are not over until the checkered flag flies and that was the case for Kenny Miller of Vancouver, Washington who earned the Saturday August 11th victory in the USRA Modifieds at Sunset Speedway Park. The Jody’s Nothin’ But Fun/VP Braille Services #50 TRE visited the winner’s circle for the first time this year and was not running his normal #57 on the side of the car because he was earning points for fellow driver Sonny Sayre. Miller would become the eighth different USRA Modified winner in point races at the Banks bullring.

The sixty-seven lap event began with Mike Sweere from McMinnville taking the helm for some time. Sweere kept his Sweere’s Trucking/Perfection Automotive #63 Dirtworks out in front of the field until he was overtaken by Philomath pilot Brody Pompe on lap seven. Pompe showed the way until his Jazz Products/Manley Engine Products #PO Dirtworks was passed for the lead by Russell Schultz from the city of Vancouver, Washington in the RES3 Racing/GRV Mobile RV Repair #01S Dirtworks.

Shultz would lead for only a couple of laps before Kenny Miller found his way to the front and to the lead on lap twenty-three. Miller would lead but would battle with Hillsboro’s Steve Suckow for several laps. The Prime-X Contracting/Perfection Automotive #37 TRE took the lead on lap thirty-five and would appeared to have the position secured until three laps to go. By the time laps were almost gone Miller made a pass on an open track on the bottom after Suckow suffered a slight bobble to make the move for the lead and go on to win the race.

Steve Suckow would finish in a respectable second place finish with third place being earned by Brody Pompe who managed to stay in the top five. Russell Schultz stayed amongst the top five as well by crossing the stripe in the fourth place position while the top five was completed with the Schott’s Paving #11X McCoy of Donald Schott out of Portland.

Steve Suckow was quick time at 15.861 seconds amongst the fifteen qualifiers in the beginning of the night. Earning the victories in heat race action were Mike Sweere and Kenny Miller. The Danny Daniels owned Dancin Bare/Double J Tire Center #23 Rayburn of Vancouver, Washington driver Chris Quinn earned the triumph in the trophy dash.

The USRA Modifieds will be back in action at Sunset Speedway Park on Saturday September 8th after a few weeks off. To keep up to date on the action at Sunset Speedway Park be sure and visit www.sunsetspeedwaypark.com.
