TUCSON, Ariz. -- Scott Ward of Watertown, S.D., scored his first win of the year Wednesday night during Round 3 of the 6th Annual Wild West Shootout at the USA Raceway in Tucson, Ariz.

After starting fourth, Ward worked past Dane Jorgenson and Jason Krohn and then set his sights on early leader Rich Loftus. Running the high side, Ward charged past Loftus with five laps complete and opened up a big lead on the field.

Rodney Sanders moved into second a few laps later and began to narrow the gap between himself and Ward before a yellow flag slowed the action with 12 laps to go. On the restart, however, Sanders lost the handle on his USRA RHS Modified and spun while exiting turn 2 to bring out another caution.

From there, Ward was untouchable as he scored the $1,000 victory. Johnny Scott took runner-up honors, with Krohn finishing third, Brad Dierks fourth and Loftus roundibng out the top five.

Round 4 of the Wild West Shootout takes place Friday evening before wrapping up with two more shows on Saturday and Sunday.
