USMTS Modifieds, Kenny Wallace return to Osky Sept. 20

NASCAR superstar Kenny Wallace will join the USMTS Modifieds when they return to the Southern Iowa Speedway in Oskaloosa, Iowa, on Monday, Sept. 20, for the 7th Annual Musco Lighting Southern Iowa Challenge.

The race was originally scheduled for Sept. 1 but was postponed by rain.

The event is part of The Hunt for the USMTS Casey’s General Stores National Championship presented by Bad Boy Mowers and the nation's top dirt-slingers will be on hand to try and tame the Mahaska County Monster.

It will mark the 40th start with the United States Modified Touring Series for the 47-year-old St. Louis native as he seeks to capture his first victory against the best of the best in dirt Modified racing.

Wallace won the first race he ever entered in 1982. At that moment he decided that his place in racing was in the driver’s seat, and in 1986 he joined the ASA ranks winning Rookie of the Year honors.

In September of 1988, Dale Earnhardt gave Wallace the seat for his first-ever NASCAR start. He finished seventh in his first NASCAR Nationwide Series start at Martinsville, Va. The following year, Wallace raced the full Nationwide Series schedule in a car owned by older brother Rusty, earning the 1989 Rookie of the Year Award and finishing sixth in points.

Wallace’s Nationwide Series accomplishments include nine wins, ten poles, and nine seasons in the top-10 in points. He has over 425 Nationwide Series starts and is the only driver to have won the Nationwide Series’ Most Popular Driver Award three times (1991, 1994 and 2006).

Wallace also has more than 340 starts in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series. He has three poles, six top-five, and 27 top-ten finishes to his credit, including three career-high second-place runs.

He is the co-host of two programs on SPEED Channel each week: NASCAR RaceDay, which airs before the Sprint Cup Series race each week, and NASCAR Victory Lane, which extends post-race coverage.

But Wallace can wheel a racecar on more than just asphalt. He won the inaugural “Prelude To The Dream” at the Eldora Speedway in 2006, and on almost any weekend you can find “The Hermanator” getting back to the roots of short track racing in his #36 Federate Auto Parts dirt Modified.

Wallace will have his hands full as the USMTS drivers will be holding nothing back in their quest for the USMTS points championship.

Also on tap for this event will be the Dart Iron Man Challenge for USRA Karl Chevrolet Stock Cars competing in their next-to-last event of the 2010 season. Carter’s Manufacturing USRA B-Mods and USRA Hobby Stocks will also be on the racing card.

Gates open at 5:30 p.m., hot laps begin at 7:15 and racing starts at 7:30.

On Monday, race fans can pick up coupons worth $2 off adult admission at all three Casey's General Stores locations in Oskaloosa. For more information, or to find the Casey's General Store nearest you, check out www.caseys.com online.
