Mother Nature thwarts Tuesday Night Thunder at Osky

OSKALOOSA, Iowa - A special “Tuesday Night Thunder” was on tap for tonight at the Southern Iowa Speedway, but Mother Nature brought her own thunder along with a heaping dose of rain, forcing officials to cancel the evening’s racing program.

The historic Mahaska County Monster will host Pepsi Season Championships next Wednesday, August 25, with the American Racer USRA Weekly Racing Series featuring USRA RHS Modifieds, USRA Karl Performance Parts B-Mods, USRA Karl Chevrolet Stock Cars and USRA Hobby Stocks.

Derek Kirkland of Centerville leads the Hobby Stock standings in search of his first track championship at Osky while Oskaloosa’s Tyler Groenendyk is in position to claim his second straight USRA Karl Performance Parts B-Mod title. Former USRA Hobby Stock National Champion Nathan Wood of Keswick sits atop the USRA Karl Chevrolet Stock Car rankings and Steven Blattler of Oskaloosa holds down the top spot in points for the USRA RHS Modifieds.

With 21 or more entries, the winner of the USRA RHS Modified main event will pocket $1,000 with a minimum $100 to each starter while USRA Karl Chevrolet Stock Cars will race for $400 to win and $75 to start and both the USRA Karl Performance Parts B-Mods and Hobby Stocks will battle for $300 to win and $60 to start.

Pits will open at 5 p.m., grandstands open at 5:30, hot laps begin at 7:15 and the first heat race starts at 7:30. General admission grandstand tickets are just $8 for adults, $3 for kids ages 6-12 and pit passes are $25. Children ages 5 and under are always admitted free of charge.

The Southern Iowa Speedway is a half-mile semi-banked clay oval located 0.5 mile west of US 63 on SR 92, then 0.3 mile north on I St. (at the Southern Iowa Fairgrounds).
