Shryock edges Sorensen in Dodge County thriller
KASSON, Minn. - For the second week in a row Mother Nature was kind to the Dodge County Speedway with beautiful sun-drenched skies. That coupled with all of the rain-outs of this weekend provided an overflowing pit area for night number five of racing.
One hundred twenty-six race teams turned out this week for the highest total in quite some time. Several of the divisions had a tough time turning some green flag laps and a couple of features were cut due to time constraints.
The USRA Karl Performance Parts B-Mod finale was hotly contested to the checkered flag. It got off to a rough start with several cautions slowing the proceedings. Ben Moudry quickly worked his way towards the front from the ninth starting slot.
Moudry was pressured by Jason Schlangen and Brandon Hare was also making his presence felt. Schlangen got alongside Moudry a couple of times, but the leader held his line.
Moudry held off the pack to score his first win of 2010 at Kasson after coming close several times. Schlangen was second with Hare third. Greg Mattick came back from the tail to finish fourth.
Kelly Shryock redrew the pole with Mike Sorensen alongside for the 25-lap USRA RHS Modified feature. Also on the line was an extra $200 to the winner compliments of Stevenson Insurance of Kasson.
Right off the bat, Tommy Myer and Bob Timm tangled in turn one. Myer was done for the night and Timm continued on. Shryock led the pack, but Sorensen, Tim Donlinger and Josh Angst were right in the mix.
Donlinger stole second and Angst got to third but a four-car tangle on lap four reset the field on the restart. Angst left the track, but his crew was able to get him back out, albeit to the tail. Another quick yellow for debris kept things tight as the field formed up two-wide behind Shryock.
Donlinger challenged for the lead and tried the low side and then the high side trying to find a way to the front. Sorensen was right on Donlinger as they chased the leader. Another yellow on lap seventeen slowed things up once again.
Sorensen slid to second on lap fifteen and went after Shryock. Sorensen got alongside and just as things were getting good another yellow flag flew which was the fifth of the race and five laps were dropped off the race making it a 20-lap affair.
Sorensen gave it one whale of a ride as he pulled even with Shryock on the final two laps but just did not have enough to get by. Shryock held on for the win with Sorensen a very close second. Donlinger was third, Jason Cummins fourth and Josh Mattick fifth.
Racing resumes next Sunday with racing at 5 p.m. It was announced that adult admission will be $8.00 next week which is still two dollars off the regular price. For more information go to www.dodgecountyspeedway.com.
