Sweeps again highlight Dodge County Speedway races
KASSON, Minn. – With less than ideal conditions, stock car racing went on this week at the Dodge County Speedway. With a light rain falling all over Southeast Minnesota, somehow it missed Kasson and racing went on as planned.
Clean sweeps again highlighted the action this week with four of the seven divisions having drivers win both their heat race and feature event.
The KM Telecom USRA Karl Performance Parts B-Mods were on the speedway with 13 cars answering the bell as Ben Moudry led with Paul Neisius and Brandon Hare giving chase. Hare got to second on lap 4 and then challenged Moudry.
Moudry and Hare remained close throughout the event as Jason Schlangen worked up to third. Hare dogged Moudry the entire way and then took to the high side on the final lap. Hare zoomed alongside the leader in the final two corners and it was a drag race to the checkered flag.
Hare edged Moudry by mere inches at the stripe making it three for three in 2010. Schlangen finished third with Neisius fourth. Dain Schultz had a nice run rounding out the top five cars.
In the Greenway Co-op USRA RHS Modifieds, Steve Wetzstein took off from row 1 looking to get his name in the win column. Wetzstein was unchallenged early on as Jason Cummins and Josh Angst race for second.
Cummins got a little high on lap seven and Angst took advantage and grabbed second. Angst closed in on Wetzstein using the low groove as Wetzstein was running the top. Angst got alongside a couple of times but was unable to get by.
Wetzstein then switched lines and came to the low side and was able to lead the rest of the way for the win. Angst finished second and Cummins was third. Ben Mattick ran in the fourth spot and Tom Paulson finished out the top five.
Racing will continue this Sunday, May 2, at the Dodge County Speedway with racing getting underway at 5 p.m.
