Dayton Pursley has showed this season he is a contender every time out at the Lebanon Midway Speedway in USRA B-Mod competition but the second-generation driver has yet to break through to the winner's circle.

That changed Friday night as Pursley, who started righth beside two-time USRA B-Mod national champion Kris Jackson, was giving Jackson plenty of competition when Jackson lost a motor on lap 8, and then held back Jerry Ellis in a one-lap shootout to take his first feature win.

The 15-lap event saw polesitter Tyler Potter jump to the lead over points leader Wesley Briggs for the opening two laps.

On lap 3, Jackson took over the top spot as Ellis and Pursley followed closely after a caution had bunched the field even tighter.

On the restart, Jackson opened a small advantage as Ellis and Pursley went swapping the runner-up spot until Pursley took the position on lap 5 and started to close the gap on Jackson.

Heading for the halfway flags, Jackson slowed and pulled up high in turn 4 with smoke coming out from under the hood of the No. 65.

Pursley, now being scored as the leader, found Ellis putting on pressure with Jamie Mauk and Shawn Whitman driving for the third-place honors.

A late caution set up a one-lap shootout and Pursley held back the surge by Ellis to take the victory with Mauk, Whitman and Potter following to the finish line.

Going into the night, Pursley was part of a tight five-driver points chase and was secen points behind Briggs for the top spot. Pursely left the track Friday as the new points leader.

Racing action continues Friday, Aug. 27, with Summit USRA Weekly Racing Series action featuring USRA B-Mods, plus LAte Models, Super Stocks, Midwest Mods, Pure Stocks and Hornets.

Racing starts at 8 p.m.
