This Thursday, May 14, the roar of engines and cheering fans will again fill the evening air in Oskaloosa, Iowa, as another exciting season kicks off at the Southern Iowa Speedway with the season opener for the American Racer USRA Weekly Racing Series.

In action at the Mahaska County Half-Mile Monster will be four action-packed classes: MUSCO Lighting USRA Modifieds, USRA Karl Chevrolet Stock Cars, Carter’s Manufacturing USRA B-Mods and USRA Hobby Stocks.

Pit gates will open at 5:00 while spectator gates open at 5:30. Hot laps will start around 7:15 and the first green flag is slated to wave at 7:30 sharp.

Defending track champions are Colt Mather of Webster (MUSCO Lighting USRA Modifieds), Matt Greiner of Washington (USRA Karl Chevrolet Stock Cars), Brian Edel of Oskaloosa (Carter’s Manufacturing USRA B-Mods) and Jason McDaniel of Eldon (USRA Hobby Stocks).

Mather is expected to return to defend his Modified title, while Greiner will be seeking his third straight Stock Car championship. Edel has reportedly hung up the helmet, so a new champion will be crowned in the B-Mods. McDaniel will also not be racing for his third Hobby Stock title in a row as he has jumped up to the B-Mod division.

Racing will return to the normal Wednesday night format beginning next week.
