“Whitey” bounces back for Humboldt triumph

HUMBOLDT, Kan. - One of the hallmarks of a true champion is the ability to see past what seems impossible and defeat all comers.

Take for example multi-time Humboldt Speedway track champion Justin "Whitey" Folk.

Buried eight spots deep in the middle of a 20-lap feature, and behind every fast guy in the neighborhood, things looked pretty bleak for Folk in Friday's USRA Modified action.

As they say, though, "the cream rises to the top" or, in this case, the front, and Folk came off a yellow flag restart blasting past everyone in his path.

In some cases, it came down to a duel of iron wills with willing opponents ... a battle Folk won on his way to victory.

Jessy Willard turned in a respectable performance after surrendering the lead to finish runner-up.

Jess Folk Jr. finished third, followed by John Allen and Dan Daniels.

Racing returns next Friday night, April 24, with the Fan-A-Seat promotion during intermission. The green flag flies at 8 p.m.
