Season opener this Saturday at 82 Speedway
This Saturday, May 2, at 8 p.m., the lid will be lifted on the 2020 racing season at 82 Speedway in Petty, Texas. The ‘Land of the XL’ features a super-wide multi-groove progressive banking surface that is .26 miles in distance on the pole and exactly a 3/10 mile on the top groove of the speedway.
May 2 will feature a complete racing program for the USRA Modifieds ($1,000 to win), Sunoco USRA Factory Stocks and USRA Limited Mods plus Texas Stocks, Eco Stocks, Eco Mods and front-wheel-drive Tuners. Each division has great driver payback (see below).
RACE FANS & TEAMS – NEW RULES EFFECTIVE IN THE STANDS & PROPERTY UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE:
- We have to limit our grandstand occupancy to 25%, so if you want a specific seating area, you should arrive early. Grandstands open at 6:30pm.
- Minimum safe distancing required. We are blocking off every other row in the stands. Please leave some space in your row between your group in the stands and others.
- We would like fans to utilize the ‘closed rows’ in the stands to get to your seat instead of walking directly in front of fans already sitting in the row you’d like to sit in. This applies when you leave your seat as well, please use the row below or above you to go back down, so everyone’s personal space is maintained as best as possible.
- We will have someone with hand sanitizer when you come in gate, plus bring your own to reapply throughout night.
- Regarding the food concession stand procedure and keeping people from congregating, please read the posted information upon your arrival.
- If you are sick or have any virus symptoms stay home and come when you’re healthy
- We strongly recommend use of face masks and follow other state health guidelines while you are on the 82 Speedway property.
- If you’d like to order a face mask, go to facebook.com/PurpleRose1976 and Cindy (our track scorer) will get you all hooked up.
DRIVERS: Our reserved pit spaces are 15' wide, which means it leaves 3' on each side of the trailer open until the next trailer parks - which equals 6' of space, so if you're not in a reserved pit space, make sure to pit 6' from the trailer next to you upon arrival.
REMINDER: 82 Speedway is NOT the old Paris Speedway. 82 Speedway is about 15 minutes WEST of PARIS, located on Hwy 82 on the east edge of Petty, TX. It's just a 90-minute drive from Dallas. 16369 US Hwy 82 Petty, TX 75470.

Here's the purse structure for Saturday May 2nd at 82 Speedway. Working RACEceivers and transponders are required in all racing divisions:
Sunoco USRA Factory Stock and USRA Limited Mod features: $500 – 300 – 200 – 160 – 120 – 100 – 90 – 80 – 70 – 60…to start. Purse is guaranteed for each division that has 12 or more cars signing in for racing. If there 11 or fewer cars in these divisions, their feature payback starts with 2nd place and continues from there (as was the case in 2019).
USRA Modified feature: $1,000 – 600 – 400 – 300 – 200 – 160 – 120 – 100…to start. There is a $25 draw-in fee for the USRA Modifieds. Purse is guaranteed with 14 or more cars signing in for racing. If there 13 or fewer cars in the division, the feature payback starts with 2nd place and continues from there.
Drivers competing in USRA divisions must be licensed. Go to USRAracing.com to get your Modified, Factory Stock or Limited Mod licensed, as the track can no longer sell USRA licenses on race night – you can only purchase a temporary license at the track on race night.
Transponder rentals are $15 (with ID, any damage done to transponders is drivers liability). Annual car registration is $40. RaceCeivers are not available as a rental... but they are required, as are transponders. Reserved pit spaces are available for the season, which can be purchased (along with car registration) at 82Speedway.com then click the ‘driver registration’ button on the upper left of the home page.
No one likes rain on race day. But here is the track policy if, and when, it intervenes. If the races rain out before the completion of the heat races, hold on to your ticket stub, as it will be valid for the next scheduled race of same ticket price value (in other words, if tickets that night were $15, the next event you will have a $15 credit when you redeem your ticket stub from the previous event). The exact same procedure will be in effect regarding pit passes.
If the races rain out after the heat races, the event is considered complete, and any remaining races will not be rescheduled and all drivers will receive start money for their scheduled division that night (for any of the feature events that rained out). There will be no grandstand tickets valid for a future date if races are rained out after the completion of heat races.
Transponders and RaceCeivers required for all divisions. (Transponder rental available at pit window. 82 Speedway uses Westhold transponders.) All non-touring division cars must be registered at 82 Speedway each year. There is a $40 annual registration fee for each 82 Speedway division cars you enter to compete in.
RACE TEAMS: 82 Speedway generally does not require you to change gearing to race here if you are usually racing on ¼-mile track! When the track was originally built it was advertised as a 3/8 mile. Now that it has been reconfigured by Tracy, it is nearly an exact .26 miles on the pole and 3/10 mile if you're racing the top groove (as the racing surface is 60+ feet wide!).
It's going to be a FANtastic night of racing at 82 Speedway this Saturday May 2nd, come join us for all the action – all at family-affordable prices!
