Folk beats Folk in Humboldt Speedway USRA Modified thriller
HUMBOLDT, Kan. - The near total domination of late in the USRA Modified division has seen Justin "Whitey" Folk hammer a lot of tough competition.
His own brother, Jess Folk Jr., came close to pulling off a win to break the spell Friday night.
Unfortunately for Jess, close doesn't get it done.
Jess struggled early before finally wrestling the lead away from Dennis Bishop.
Once in front, however, things looked fairly cut and dried as Jess opened up a sizeable gap, while Jessy Willard held Whitey at bay for second.
Then came a yellow flag, and on the restart it became clear that Whitey was on the move again, blowing by Willard on the start.
One curious phenomenon in this race was that, at some point, all of the top five cars had trouble getting through turns 3-4, but not all the time or all at once.
This was the other untimely problem for Jess as a momentary bobble gave brother Whitey the opening he needed.
With Jess firmly in second, Rodney Sigg came from deep in the field to grab third.
Willard finished fourth, with Scott Daniels fifth.
Next week features doubleheader action in one package as Boone Real Estate puts up a $1,000 top prize in both B-Mod and Street Stock feature action. Look for a large field of cars to turn out for this event. Adult admission will be $13 at the gate.
