Stock Cars, B-Mods join USMTS Modifieds at Belleville Aug. 11
BELLEVILLE, Kan. – Officials from the United States Modified Touring Series announced today that both Stock Cars and B-Mods will join the program when the O'Reilly USMTS National Tour invades the famed Belleville High Banks in Belleville, Kan., on Monday, Aug. 11.
“We've been listening to suggestions from fans and drivers for several weeks as to which class we should add to the program on August 11,” said USMTS president Todd Staley. “The response was equally strong from both sides, so we've decided to add both classes to the show and give the fans an even bigger bang for their buck.”
The 2nd Annual Belleville Modified Nationals will be the first visit by the rugged road warriors of the O'Reilly USMTS National Tour to the “World's Fastest Half-Mile Dirt Track” in more than six years while Stock Car and B-Mod drivers will get their first chance ever to test their skills on what has been called “the closest thing to Daytona on dirt.”
As if that wasn't enough, race fans will also have the opportunity to get autographs and see Kenny Wallace and another soon-to-be-announced NASCAR superstar compete with the USMTS Modifieds on the big half-mile oval.
On June 4, 2002, Justin Boney held off a talent-riddled field to take the O'Reilly USMTS National Tour win at Belleville. Kurt Johnston, Jason Hughes, Brook Phillips and Steve Wetzstein rounded out the top-5 finishers while Kelly Shryock finished seventh on his way to recording his fourth of eight straight O'Reilly USMTS National Championships.
An unfathomable field of firepower is expected on Monday, Aug. 11, as this year's event at Belleville will be the fourth race in the Casey’s General Stores Hunt for the USMTS National Championship.
While the USMTS Modifieds will be battling for $2,000 to win and valuable points in the fight for the series title, Stock Cars will compete for a $400 top prize while B-Mods will race for $300 to win.
Stock Cars and B-Mods that comply with either IMCA or USRA rules are invited to compete. For licensed USRA drivers, the event at the Belleville High Banks will also award national points in the USRA Casey's General Stores Weekly Racing Series for the USRA Karl Chevrolet Stock Cars and USRA Karl Chevrolet B-Mods. There is no entry fee for either class for this race.
The Belleville High Banks is a historic dirt track built nearly a century ago for racing events that encompassed everything from horses to motorcycles. Today, the “World's Fastest Half-Mile Dirt Track” brings more than race cars and drivers to North Central Kansas, but also an atmosphere of excitement and enthusiasm to the famed Belleville High Banks. The sweeping clay oval is one of the world's most demanding tracks for both drivers and equipment.
The Belleville High Banks is located 2.0 miles north of US 36 on US 81, then 0.4 mile southeast on M St. to 7th St., then 0.1 mile east (near the water tower, at the North Central Kansas Fairgrounds). For more information, visit www.highbanks.org online.
