Mid-Season champs crowned as Folk runs wild at Humboldt Speedway

HUMBOLDT, Kan. - The mid-point of the 2008 season has come and gone with veteran driver Jess Folk Jr. topping the current points standings in the USRA Modifieds.

This week's big ticket race had to be a duel between Justin "Whitey" Folk and road warrior Johnny Bone Jr.

Both won their heat races in a timely fashion, and sat side by side on the front row of the feature race.

Straining at the leash, the pair blasted off at the green, neither one having a clear advantage in the opening laps.

Bone, however, got close enough to the high side wall in turn 3 that it was either back off or crash, and that was all Whitey Folk needed.

By the end, Bone was within realative striking distance, but Folk was not to be denied.

Third spot went to Jess Folk Jr., Scott Daniels was fourth and Jessy Willard finished fifth.

Fourth of July is just over the horizion, and "The Hummer" will be racing on Thursday, July 3, instead of Friday.

A gala fireworks display is also planned.
