Edel wins second, VanGenderen finishes second with GM Performance Parts Crate Engines
ANKENY, Iowa – Bryan Edel took home his second Carter's Manufacturing USRA B-Mod feature of the season last Wednesday night.
Edel is one of a couple of B-Mod drivers competing weekly at the Southern Iowa Speedway in Oskaloosa, Iowa, who are utilizing a GM Performance Parts 602 Crate Engine purchased from Karl Chevrolet.
“When it’s your night, it is your night, and tonight we had them all covered,” Edel said after his win.
For his winning efforts, Edel will receive his second $100 award certificate from Karl Chevrolet.
Also on Wednesday night, Mike VanGenderen piloted the #57V Project Crate Engine Stock Car to an impressive second-place finish in the USRA Karl Chevrolet Stock Car division at the track.
VanGenderen, who started fourth in his heat race, went on to win his heat and drew an eighth-place starting position for the feature. From the outside of the fourth row, VanGenderen quickly moved to the front, only be sent back to eighth as several yellows re-aligned the field for the start.
By lap 11, VanGenderen was out front until a perfect slide job by Nathan Woods forced VanGenderen to check up. A.J. Johnson snuck by right behind Woods, relegating VanGenderen to third.
Near the end, Woods suffered engine failure which made for a green-white-checkered finish that saw VanGenderen push Johnson across the finish line.
After a sixth-place finish in week one, a fifth-place finish in week two, a second-place finish in the third week out with the GM Performance Parts 604 Crate Engine, Project Crate Engine Stock Car is turning some heads and raising some eyesbrows.
