VanderBeek highlights Kasson winners
KASSON, Minn. – The sun shone brightly for the second straight Sunday at the Kasson Speedway in 2008 and the races were once again hotly contested in five regular divisions, as the Super Stocks had the night off at the Southern Minnesota speedplant.
Seventy-five cars were on hand for the program, which saw some greatly contested battles in all six divisions (including the Northern Vintage Stock Cars) throughout the course of the evening presented by Morris Concrete of Byron.
Doug Hillson took off from the inside of the front row in the USRA Modified feature into the lead, with a thrilling battle for second between Corey Dripps, Zack VanderBeek and Todd Scharkey.
The trio swapped the second spot on multiple occasions, while Hillson ran alone out front until a lap 11 caution bunched the field back up.
After multiple late race restarts, VanderBeek finally was able to overhaul Hillson for the race lead with just three laps remaining and raced away for his first career feature win in Kasson.
Scharkey, Alan Mondus, Steve Wetzstein and Dripps rounded out the top-5.
Racing resumes at the Kasson Speedway on Sunday, May 25, with a full program of Super Stocks, Midwest Modifieds, Street Stocks, Pure Stocks and Hornets along with the first of three visits by the O'Reilly USMTS Modifieds.
Racing will begin at 6 p.m. Check out www.kassonspeedway.com for more information.
