Jackson keeps hot streak going, secures Lebanon Midway Speedway win
Defending Out-Pace USRA B-Mod National Champion Kris Jackson of Lebanon took advantage of a late-race caution and a hard-fought battle with 2017 track champion Tyler Brown to take home the honors Friday night at the Lebanon Midway Speedway.
Fresh off his Wednesday night victory in Iowa, Jackson made the trip back home to compete and found the competition ready for his return.
Jackson, who struggled in his qualifying heat with a third-place finish saw the redraw go heads-up from the heat race results and finding himself starting fifth on the grid. Young gun Dillion McCowan and Tyler Brown started on the front row as Brown took the opening spot with McCowan, Brian Myers, Casey Thomas and Jackson following.
Illinois driver Jimmy Cummings caught everyone's eyes, shooting from eighth to follow Jackson around the track in his first-ever start.
A lap-4 caution bunched the pack up with Brown looking for his first win of the season as the top 6 remained the same. On the restart, Jackson shot from fifth to third and had to push hard to catch up with the fast-paced lead duo. The second caution waved on lap 9 as rookie Robin Showers spun, bunching the pack together.
With Brown out in front of the double-file restart, McCowan picked the bottom lane, placing Jackson to the outside. When the green flew, Jackson shot to the middle lane to grab second place and began to close in on Brown. A spirited battle between the duo provided lots of people wondering if Brown could hold off the fast-moving Jackson. A lap-12 caution saw Jackson pick the bottom lane on the restart as a fast-moving homas was putting on pressure to McCowan for thr third spot while Myers and Cummings battling for a top-5 finish.
With three laps to go, Jackson shot down low on Brown as the leaders went door to door for the top spot as Jackson finally made it around Brown to grab the lead. McCowan got a great bite off the turn and went around Brown grabbing the runner-up spot as Brown's car seemed to lose some forward bite.
When the checkered flew, it was Jackson securing the win with McCowan, Brown, Thomas and Myers completing the top 5.
Qualifying heats went to McCowan and Brown.
