Two-time defending American Racer USRA Stock Car champion Luke Saathoff of Jackson claimed his familiar ground in victory lane by winning Saturday night’s 18-lap opener at Nobles County Speedway in Worthington. Pole sitter Jon DeBoer led early. Saathoff, who started fifth, worked past Rich Gregoire, Travis Vanden Top and Tom Kracht in his march to the front. Darrin Korthals of Rock Rapids, Iowa, came from seventh to earn runner-up status ahead of DeBoer.

Defending Cook Racing Supplies USRA Hobby Stock title holder Dustin Gulbrandson of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, also came from the third row to pick up an opening night win. Home town racer Corey Gronewold used the pole to lead the 17-car field for the first six laps. Gulbrandson, meanwhile, was taking down cars one-by-one. A restart gave Gulbrandson an opening to overtake Gronewold. The race was red-flagged for approximately 20-minutes as lights on the south end of the track went down. Gulbrandson had no trouble resuming his torrid pace when the final six laps were run. Tyler Schlumbohm was the only other driver to get by Gronewold in a second place effort.

“The Outlaw” Devin McMartin was a surprise entry in the Out-Pace USRA B-Mod division. After a restart, he passed Chris Goetz to take the lead en route to the win in the 15-lap A-Main. Jordan Ahlers led the first lap. The restart was forced after Ahlers spun in front of the field on the second lap. Kole Nordquist kept the pressure on McMartin throughout the feature. He had to settle for second while Lyndon Johnson raced from eighth to third.

Kent Miller nosed his way to the lead at the outset of the Afterhour Graphics, Tees and More USRA Tuner feature, albeit with some slight contact. Miller’s lead, however, dissolved after he worked past Joshua Uhl and Dan Jensen. Uhl proved to have the fastest car in picking up the season’s first A Feature.
