Jackson garners good payday at Lebanon Midway
Defending Out-Pace USRA B-Mod National Champion Kris Jackson of Lebanon took early control and then survived a late-race caution and surge from Dillion McCowan and Tyler Brown in capturing the $777-to-win feature Friday evening at the Lebanon Midway Speedway.
The event was presented by TJR Racing, Lindsay Chevrolet, Lindsay Auto Group and Coldwell Banker of Lebanon.
Jackson, who had the highest points total in qualifying heats, declined the offer of pushing his No. 65 Ruble Racing Engines/TJR Motorsports/Green Space Industries machine to start 10th before the redraw for an extra $100 to win from Midway Auctions. Sam Petty also declined but 2017 Track Champion Tyler Brown accepted the offer.
Jackson drew a 3 placing him second row inside and was wasting no time in taking the lead as Tyler Knudtson, who started outside row 1 and was looking to celebrate a birthday was getting into the smooth line and slowly was gaining on Jackson until lap 5 when the 8K slowed in turn 3 with a parts failure.
Jackson shot like a rocket on the restart as Dillion McCowan and defending champion Sam Petty were having a war for the spot while Tyler Brown was making some moves forward along with Mitchell Franklin from deep in the pack while Jerry Ellis, making his 1st start of the season at Midway was in the mix.
Following a couple of restarts, the pack had closed tight on Jackson as the battle between McCowan and Petty had allowed Brown and Franklin to join thefun as Jackson seemed to be hitting his stride and opened-up the advantage.
A lap 17 caution bunched the pack together as Tyler Brown was the driver on the move now running 3rd. On the restart, Jackson got a strong launch off turn 2 as Brown went outside of McCowan trying tokeep pace while McCowan held the low line strong allowing Jackson to pull away grabbing the high-paying feature with the final run down finding McCowan, Brown, Mitchell Franklin and Jerry completing the top 5.
Summit USRA Weekly Racing Series action continues next Friday night with the Out-Pace USRA B-Mods presented by U-Pull-It Auto Parts with racing at 8 p.m.
