Jam-packed August on tap at I-35 Speedway


Here’s August, and there’s more fun at I-35 Speedway.

This month brings exciting weekly racing every Saturday night, barbeque with the Smokin' Trackside BBQ Bash on Friday and Saturday, Aug. 10-11, a USMTS “the Best of the Best” Modified race on Thursday, Aug. 16, and something new as the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) will hold a special event on Sunday, Aug. 25, with a Rallycross at what has become the I-35 Speedway Motorsports Park.

This Saturday, Aug. 4, the fun for the month begins with the annual McCarthy Autogroup Kid’s Night. Thanks to our race teams, track staff and sponsors which consist of Day's Inn of Cameron, Connie Stevenson Mary Kay Beauty Consultant, Sue & Ed Carlton, Team 417, Cosentino's Price Chopper of Kearney, Trash & Treasure of Kearney, El Sombrero of Claycomo, McDonald's of Cameron, Dan Bridgeman, The Reber Family, Chris Kline Racing/Precision Illustrations, Bobby Lopez Racing, Green Rolling Farms, Brianna Erickson, Dustin Crist Racing, Patrick Royalty Racing, Steven Bunton Racing, Amy & Ron Hill, Amy Hill/Great Clips and Ainsworth Racing.

In addition to free admission, every kid age 18 and under will receive a free backpack as they prepare to return to school.

On the track, fans will witness the Rick Beebe Heating & Air Smokin' Hot Summer Series presented by Prime Racing for the USRA Modifieds, Out-Pace USRA B-Mods and Holley USRA Stock Cars along with Grand Nationals, Pure Stocks, E Mods, Sport Compacts and Show-Me Vintage Racers. It's going to be a super fun night at the I-35 Speedway.

The I-35 Speedway is located just off of exit 64 from Interstate 35. Gates open at 4:30 p.m. with hot laps at 6:15 and racing at 7. Adults are $12, seniors (62 and over) are $10 and those ages 18 and younger are free.

Concessions are available throughout the facility. The Trackside Bar & Grill overlooking the racing in turn 1 is a great place for dinner. Large tenderloins, hot fries, walking tacos, hot dogs, hamburgers, snow cones, sweet funnel cakes, root beer floats and beverages of your choice are all available to satisfy your appetite, plus clean restrooms meeting Mom’s approval and always free parking.

Where else would you be on Saturday night other than I-35 Speedway?

The 3rd Annual Trackside BBQ Bash will be a two-day event, Aug. 10-11. Teams will arrive on Friday and prepare for a People’s Choice Chicken Wing Barbeque contest. This event will involve cost to try the scrumptious tasting wings and vote for your favorite. On Saturday the track will enjoy the aroma of BBQ cooking as the KCBS judges will be in full-scale taste-testing the BBQ teams' brisket, pork, chicken and ribs.

As the BBQ contest is winding up, race cars will be entering the pits.

The United States Modified Touring Series competitors invade the 3/8-mile clay oval on Thursday, Aug. 16.
