USRA Late Models back in action Wednesday at Oskaloosa

OSKALOSA, Iowa - Hungry for some high-speed racing? If you answered yes, then a feast of "fast food" awaits you this Wednesday, May 16, as the USRA Late Models make their first of three stops this season at the Southern Iowa Speedway in Oskaloosa, Iowa.

Drivers from Iowa, Missouri, Illinois and beyond will be on hand to take on the Mahaska County Half-Mile Monster with an eye on the $3,000 top prize. Wednesday's race will be the second of 17 events comprising this year's inaugural USRA Late Model schedule, and a big field of heavy-hitters is expected to challenge for the title.

As if that wasn't enough to satisfy your appetite, a full menu featuring MUSCO Lighting USRA Modifieds, USRA Stock Cars, USRA B-Mods and USRA Hobby Stocks will also be served up as they battle for USRA Casey's General Stores Weekly Racing Series national and track points.

The 2007 season marks the first time that the high-powered Late Model division will compete under the USRA banner. While $3,000 awaits the winner of Wednesday's main event, a minimum of $250 to start is also up for grabs. All 2007 USRA Late Model headline events will carry a top prize of $3,000 to win, while events co-headlined by the popular O’Reilly USMTS Modifieds will pay $2,000 to win for both the USRA Late Models and the O’Reilly USMTS Modifieds.

The pit gate opens at 5:00 p.m. and the grandstands open up for general admission seating at 5:30. Hot laps are slated for 7:15 with the first green flag at 7:30.

Keokuk's Tommy Elston held off Gary Wilson and Chad Simpson to capture the USRA Late Model season opener on April 28 at the Pepsi Scotland County Speedway in Memphis, Mo. Behind that trio, Chris Smyser is currently fourth in points, followed by Mark Burgtorf, Jeff Guengerich, Jeff Aikey, Justin Reed, Thad Trump and Jay Chenoweth in 10th.
