Jackson earns Lebanon Midway win with late-race pass
Current Out-Pace USRA B-Mod national points leader Kris Jackson used a late-race caution to close the ground on leader Tyler Knudtson and then got a strong restart in capturing his ninth feature win Friday night at the Lebanon Midway Speedway dirt track.
Jackson started the feature from the 11th starting spot as youngster Dillion McCowan and Knudtson occupied the front row spots. Knudtson got the jump and was setting a quick pace early while Brian Myers was holding a solid second while Jackson was picking his way through traffic.
A couple of short cautions kept Knudtson's top spot at bay as Jackson kept picking up a position or two in between the short runs. The final caution rolled out with four laps remaining as Jackson had moved into the runner-up spot.
On the restart, Jackson put the pressure on the race leader and was able to make his winning move. For Knudtson—a second-year Out-Pace USRA B-Mod driver—he needed a longer green run as he said the tires sealed over, an issue they have fought this season but a lot of hard work has limited the early season issue.
"We have a new car this season and it has been strong, we just have to make the right adjustments," Knudtson said. "Kris (Jackson) has been helping us and TJR Racing out of Lebanon (Tony Jackson Jr.) have really helped us pick up the program."
Jackson is tough at Midway and has showed everyone at all the USRA tracks why he is No. 1 in the standings. For current S&S U-Pull-It Auto Parts track points leader Sam Petty it was a rough night and struggles placed him 11th in the final rundown and allowed Jackson to jump back into the points lead.
Following the lead duo were Myers, Dayton Newell and defending track champion Tyler Brown.
Summit USRA Weekly Racing Series action will continue Tuesday night, July 3, with a full racing program along with a fireworks show at the intermission break. Track, regional and national points will be awarded for the Out-Pace USRA B-Mods.
