Dan Hovden fended off several challengers Friday night and found his way to victory lane during the Out-Pace USRA B-Mod main event on night two at the 19th Annual Featherlite Fall Jamboree.

The Decorah, Iowa, driver started on the inside of the second row but dropped in behind a three-wide battle for the lead between J.T. Wasmund, Parker Hale and Shawn Strong to open the 20-lap feature race.

Strong gained control and led the first paid of laps around the high-banked 3/8-mile clay oval before Hale took over for the next six orbits.

Hovden slowly worked his way toward the front and then slid past Hale to take command on the seventh lap. He and Hale swapped slide-jobs for a couple of laps before Hovden settled in at the front.

A few laps later, Erik Kanz reeled in Hovden and briefly passed the Iron Man Challenge points leader on lap 14, but Hovden fought back and regained the top spot for good with five laps remaining.

The win—Hovden’s first at the Deer Creek Speedway—was worth $1,500 thanks to a $500 bonus from Red Tail Tackle and boosted his chances for an Iron Man Challenge and Summit USRA Weekly Racing Series national championship two-fer.

Kanz, who started 12th, held on for the runner-up honors while Strong finished third ahead of Thursday’s winner, Jim Chisholm who came all the way from 26th on the starting grid.

Another Decorah driver, Kyle Anderson, rounded out the top five. Track champion Dustin Kruse, A.J. Zvorak, Ben Moudry, Mike Mehling and Andrew Bleess completed the top 10.

It was Hovden’s sixth Iron Man Challenge triumph of the season and 20th overall during the 2017 campaign.

The 19th Annual Featherlite Fall Jamboree wraps up Saturday an explosive finale featuring more than 150 cars dancing on the Deer Creek Speedway for more than 300 total laps of door-to-door racing action and drivers fighting for their share of nearly $150,000 in posted prize money.

Fans will witness a complete program of qualifying heat races, last-chance races and two championship features starting 30-plus cars three-wide for both the USMTS/USRA Modifieds and Out-Pace USRA B-Mods.

The winner of the Modified main event will pocket at least $11,000 while the winner on the B-Mods feature will take home a minimum of $1,700 in cash.

The top 15 in heat race passing points will be locked into the “A” Mains with the top 9 redrawing for the first nine starting positions. An additional 15 drivers will advance from the “B” Mains. The Modified finale may also include a past champion provisional, plus the annual $2,000-to-win Non-Qualifiers Race for the top 30 drivers failing to make the main event.
