Elliott, Wray, Clancy winners at I-35 Speedway
Dennis Elliott won the USRA Modified feature.
I-35 Speedway had veterans stand and be recognized, not knowing what Donnie Brown Racing and I-35 Speedway had in mind for them on this night. Together, they gave free admission tickets for the racing on June 17 to all veterans in attendance as they were recognized.
Out-Pace USRA B-Mods did not disappoint the large crowd in attendance as they raced to the checkers. Heat race winner Chris Wright and Shadren Turner battled out front early with Turner taking the top spot until heat race winner Steve Clancy took the front and set the pace. As the laps wound down, Doug Keller emerged from the pack as a challenger and moved past Clancy on the high side only to see the caution fly and reset the field moving Clancy bank to the point and setting up a green-white-checkered finish. On the ensuing restart, Clancy would not be denied and led the remaining laps, picking up the feature win. Keller finished second moving Turner to place third. Fourth belonged to another heat race winner, Ed Noll, with Danan Knott a very close fifth.
Steve Clancy won the Out-Pace USRA B-Mod feature.
As the great racing action continued, Holley USRA Stock Cars did not see the caution in their feature event. Heat race winner Dean Wray used the high line to take the lead and never relinquished it on his way to the McCarthy Auto Group Winners Circle. Mich Ross edged the other heat race winner, Jay Barnes, at the line to take second, moving Barnes to third. The big mover of the race was Jon Boller Jr. as he ran down the leaders but ran out of laps, placing fourth with Keith Simmons rounding out the top five.
Dean Wray won the Holley USRA Stock Car feature.
USRA Modifieds put on a great race in their 20-lap feature event. As the race turned green on the field, heat race winner Cory Wray took the lead only to see Dennis Elliott and fellow heat race winner Zach Sanders right on his bumper. Elliott threaded the needle, taking the lead and holding the rest of the field at bay. Sanders charged to the front and challenged Elliott only to slip and fade through the field late with Elliott marching on to claim his second win of 2017. Wray stayed at the front, finishing second with Chad Clancy having an impressive run placing third. Fourth saw Shane Lawson with fifth belonging to Bud Wilson. The other heat race winner was Darren Shaw.
The I-35 Speedway would like to thank all drivers and fans for another great night of racing action. See everyone next Saturday night, June 10.
