Late Models return to Oskaloosa July 25

OSKALOOSA, Iowa (July 20) -- It's been a long wait but, after a four-year hiatus, the long-awaited return of the mud-slinging Super Late Models comes to the Southern Iowa Speedway on Tuesday, July 25, for an epic battle on the Oskaloosa, Iowa, clay during the Southern Iowa Fair.

Many of the region's top Super Late Model pilots will be on hand to fight for a spot in $200-to-start KBOE Late Model Fair Challenge main event, which carries a $2,000 top prize.

"We have fielded dozens of calls from Late Model drivers all over and Iowa and surrounding States about this event," said Todd Staley, promoter of the Mahaska County Half-Mile Monster. "Coupled with the huge response we've gotten from fans, we're expecting this to be a jam-packed joint for what promises to be a classic race."

Also in action will be USRA Stock Cars and Hobby Stocks racing for national and track points in the USRA Casey's General Stores Weekly Racing Series.

TICKETS: Tickets are just $12, with juniors (13-18) and seniors (62+) getting in for $8. As always, children 12 and under are admitted FREE. Gates open at 5 p.m. and the green flag flies at 7:30. There are no reserved seats for this race, so get there early!

RULES: Spec-legal motors may run any size carburetor (with a maximum one-inch adapter plate); NASCAR-legal motors will be allowed with a 390cfm carburetor; Aluminum block must add 75 lbs. in front of bell housing. Spec Hoosiers, former McCrearys are legal (EC2 McCreary or Hoosier spec tires only) as well as the Hoosier D-55 tire. Grinding and siping tires is allowed, but there is no grooving allowed; Wheels must be 12 or 14 inch; Mufflers are not required; Weight minimum 2,350 lbs; All other NASCAR-type rules apply.

Line-ups will be determined using a draw/redraw format. Draw cutoff time for heat races is 7 p.m. Entry fee is $75. There is no entry fee for Stock Cars and Hobby Stocks. Pit passes are $25.

On Wednesday, it's Kids Night presented by KBOE and the Southern Iowa Fair with the USRA Casey’s General Stores Weekly Racing Series and another Wild Wednesday Night program featuring Musco Lighting USRA Modifieds, USRA Stock Cars and USRA Hobby Stocks. Gates open at 5 p.m. with racing at 7:30.
