Vandals ruin Friday night action at Fox Ridge Speedway

ARCADIA, Wis. -- FOX RIDGE SPEEDWAY suffered yet another forced cancellation of racing this past Friday May 26th. This week it wasn’t rain, it wasn’t cold temperatures, it wasn’t even snow ... it was something much more diabolical and depressing.

Thursday night May 25th FOX RIDGE SPEEDWAY was the victim of malicious vandalism to race track equipment and to the electrical system which operates the Musco track lighting system. The damage was discovered Friday morning May 26th about 9:30 am.

The police department conducted their investigation and when the scene was released there simply was not enough time available to repair the damage to the track equipment and the electrical system in order to put forth a night of safe and enjoyable racing activities for fans and racers alike.

Thus the decision was made to cancel the night’s scheduled event early enough to allow fans and drivers the ability to make alternate plans.

“At this time we are not at liberty to release the specifics of the damage as the investigation into this crime is on going.” said Speedway Owner David Hesch in a statement Sunday, “The reason we chose not to release this information on Friday was because there was a rumor being circulated about the Broiler Days weekend and we did not want to further alarm anyone.”

Despite the fact that there was specific evidence left at the scene, FOX RIDGE SPEEDWAY owners and management publicly stated that they have no definite idea who did this malicious act and they have not and will not directly associate this act with anyone at this time.

“We will let the authorities do their job,” continued Hesch, “and we are confident that they will find the perpetrators behind this callous act. Also, any comments contrary to or other than this official statement should be considered unofficial and/or false.”

Hesch added that they have already contacted their insurance company and repairs are ongoing for the speedway to reopen on Friday night June 2nd.

It’s quite obvious that the perpetrators of this act are not, in any way shape or form, friends of any sort to anyone in the racing community; not the drivers, not the car owners, not the many local/area/regional business who sponsor cars or speedways, nor the fans. It truly is a sad day for the local motor sports community when an evening of family fun, such as the FOX RIDGE SPEEDWAY has been providing now for five consecutive years – moving into it’s sixth consecutive season – is ruined and forced to be cancelled due to vandals and their acts such as what occurred at FOX RIDGE SPEEDWAY.

Again, racing is scheduled to resume at FOX RIDGE SPEEDWAY next Friday night June 2nd with another night of High-Banked High-Speed Dirt-Track action at ‘THE BIG 3/8-MILE’.

All six divisions will once again be on the track – action from OFFICIALLY SANCTIONED WISSOTA Late Models, WISSOTA Super Stocks, WISSOTA MidWest Modifieds, WISSOTA Street Stocks and OFFICIALLY SANCTIONED USRA Modifieds, will be joined by the ever popular 4-Cylinder Hornets with hot laps beginning at 7 and the first green flag waving at 7:30.
