Fox Ridge Speedway ‘Racing for a Cure’
ARCADIA, Wis. -- Arcadia race track owners Dave and Judy Hesch announced this month that FOX RIDGE SPEEDWAY would be getting involved with the American Cancer Society’s ‘Relay for Life’ event being held in Arcadia.
As teams of enthusiastic citizens prepare to gather at the Arcadia High School for an overnight relay against cancer from 6 p.m. on June 3 until 9 a.m. on June 4 FOX RIDGE SPEEDWAY will be getting involved as well – in a number of ways.
“Cancer has touched almost everyone’s life in some way”, said Judy Hesch during a recent discussion concerning FOX RIDGE SPEEDWAY’s involvement, “as a matter of fact, it has directly touched the lives and hearts of most of us here at Fox Ridge.
Both Dave and Judy have lost parents to cancer, and Judy's sister is currently undergoing treatment for cancer at this time. Also, several of their employees are cancer survivors. “One day,” added Dave, “we hope the word cancer will become a memory and with the support of the entire country it may become a reality”.
At the request of Judy, it was FOX RIDGE SPEEDWAY employees Carol Burmeister, ‘Team Captain’ for the “Fox Ridge Racers” relay team and Kevin Roesler who got the ball rolling, “I am a survivor” stated Burmeister, “When Judy asked Kevin and I to come up with ideas for how FOX RIDGE SPEEDWAY could raise money for the relay. I went to one meeting and have been involved ever since!”
Donation canisters are visibly located around the speedway and fund raising events are held weekly to raise money and allow participants to take home various pieces of donated racing collectables and paraphernalia. There are even some special events being planned for Friday night June 3rd at FOX RIDGE SPEEDWAY itself.
Roesler, driver of the FOX RIDGE SPEEDWAY pace truck, is also a cancer survivor. Diagnosed in July of ‘99 with Hodgkin's Disease, Lymphoma Cancer, Roesler will be in remission for 5 years as of May 5, 2005 and will be the Honorary Chair for the ‘Relay for Life’ for the American Cancer Society this year.
“One day I would like to see cancer being treated as easily as doctors treat a common cold”, said Roesler this week when asked about his involvement, “Research is the only way to get us there, and that's what the ‘Relay for Life’ is all about - raising money for research to find a cure for cancer.”
The ‘Fox Ridge Racers’ relay team will participate in the ‘Relay for Life’ June 3rd and 4th.

Hot laps begin at 7 pm with the green flag for the evening’s first race scheduled to wave at 7:30. Hope to see you AT THE RIDGE!!
