Barger’s hot streak continues at I-90 Speedway

HARTFORD, S.D.—USRA B-Mod racer Nick Barger of Madison, S.D., is in the midst of a hot streak that he’d like to parlay into the month of August. Barger followed up last week’s I-90 Speedway feature win in the USRA B-Mod class with a second straight victory on Saturday. Barger came from the third row to follow Chris Goetz on the opening lap. Barger patiently tailed Goetz before taking the lead on the eighth lap. He then outraced Miah Christensen to the checkered flag. As if the two wins weren’t enough, Barger won the biggest race of his young career earlier in the week when he drove a stellar race at Rapid Speedway to win a USRA B-Modified Iron Man event. Prior to Saturday, he had the engine of his 14N car in for a tune-up. It appears that Barger and his crew are at the top of their game as the season heads into the home stretch. Meanwhile, points leader Dennis Martin came from 10th for a third place finish. Martin was able to increase his lead in the standings to 67 points over Tyler Tesch.

Andrew Siemonsma went home with a five-foot tall trophy sponsored by flagman Chuck Hanisch after leading all 12 laps of the USRA Hobby Stock feature. Hanisch has provided the trophy on a yearly basis as appreciation for the Hobby Stock drivers who pack the track each night. Siemonsma was chased around the track all night by Cole Gulbrandson who was in search of his second straight win. Admittedly, Siemonsma may have caught a break by a late caution. As he was coming to the white flag he began to get sideways in turn four. The bobble may have given Gulbrandson the opening he needed, but a caution quickly came out for another car. Siemonsma then covered the field over the green/white/checker finale to earn his second win of the season. Tim Waltner was third, Dustin Gulbrandson fourth and Nick Brady fifth in his new hobby stock.

There’s more racing this Saturday night in all five Paramount Racing Series divisions. Hot laps start at 6:30 p.m. with racing at 7:00. Log onto www.i90speedway.com for more information, visit the track’s Facebook page and follow on Twitter @racei90 for news, results, points and more. Saturday, August 8, is I-90 Speedway’s Hobby Stock Nationals featuring the Progressive Jackpot. Come early for I-90 Speedway’s first tailgate party of the season. Admission to the races is only $6 between 4:00-5:30 p.m. that night. Hobby Stocks will be parked at the grandstand during that time and fans can visit with the drivers and see the cars up close. A tailgate party special of a grilled hamburger, fries and soft drink for $8.50 will be offered until 6:00 p.m. And, throughout the afternoon and evening, fans, sponsors and racing teams can add money to the Progressive Jackpot to build on the Hobby Stock Nationals winner’s share that starts at $500.
