Hovden brothers dominate, Larson wins in shoot-out at Upper Iowa Speedway

DECORAH, Iowa--The Upper Iowa Speedway hosted its season opener on Saturday night in front of a packed house.

In the USRA Hobby Stock feature event, Steve Larson started outside pole. After going cautionless for a majority of the race, Josh Ludeking blew a tire coming off of corner two sending him spinning recklessly to the bottom of the track. With only four laps remaining, Larson lead pole sitter Paul Seabrooke and veteran Scott Spilde. On the restart, Spilde’s machine went up into smoke coming to the line causing the second caution of the night. This allowed for Chris Hovden to sneak into the third position. Larson drove away from Seabrooke and company on the restart to claim his first win of the season. Seabrooke earned second.

Kyle Anderson stole the stage on Friday night at the Fayette County Speedway by picking up his first win of the season. Anderson then would start pole for the season opener feature race at the Upper Iowa Speedway hoping to double up on opening weekend. The machine of Anderson drove away from the field to hold a multiple car length lead. Dan Hovden, who started mid pack, ran Anderson down and eventually made the pass in the corners. From green to checkered, the USRA B-Mods saw a familiar face in victory lane with Dan Hovden, who snagged his first feature win of the season.

In the USRA Stock Cars, all was well in the feature until a front runner hit an inside tire to send it flying into the middle of the pack. A few cars were collected, but all eyes were on up front where Dillon Anderson and Mitch Hovden dragged raced to the finish. Hovden provided the muscles on the night claiming his first win of the season. While in victory lane, Hovden mentioned, “This is the fastest I have ever ran on this track.” Anderson took home.

The Upper Iowa Speedway will be back in action next Saturday night. Hot laps at 6PM racing at 6:30PM. For more infomation, “like” Upper Iowa Speedway on Facebook or visit www.upperiowaspeedway.com.
