Myers masters maiden voyage run at ‘The Ridge’

ARCADIA, Wis. (June 27, 2001) - The Fox Ridge Speedway in Arcadia, WI hosted its first mid-week special of the season on Wednesday, June 27th, which featured the United States Modified Touring Series along with the WISSOTA Super Stocks and Street Stocks.

Tony Sass and Jim Randall raced wheel to wheel for the lead as they entered turn 2 on the first circuit as did Daryl Foegen and Luke Schultz right behind them for third. Randall took over the top spot, but Sass stayed right with him for the first 6 laps until Randall began to stretch his advantage over the field. Foegen then moved in to battle with Sass for second as Travis Krause and Kevin Adams were making their moves toward the front.

The field quickly strung itself out around the speedway with Randall continuing to show the way as Foegen wrestled the second spot away from Sass. Krause and Adams continued their movement toward the front, but Randall was too much as he went on to pick up his fourth win at the speedway this season ahead of Foegen, Krause, Adams and Danny Hanson.

The Super Stock feature left little to the imagination because after giving up the lead to Jon Duffy on lap one, newcomer Curt Myers blasted out into the lead and stretched it with every lap to pick up a convincing feature win.

Myers immediately checked out on the field, leaving the battle on the speedway for second between Duffy, John Doelle and Bruce Tourville. Duffy held the spot as the race neared the halfway point with Myers way out in front in his # 7m machine. Jason Johnson came to life on the high side and began to pick off a few cars, appearing in the top five on lap 9 while he and Troy Brand diced it up in traffic.

Myers was too far gone for Duffy to catch him as Curt raced to his 7th win of the season ahead of Duffy, Tourville, Johnson and Brand.

The USMTS Modified feature was the final event of the night and saw Les Duellman and Jason Hughes pacing the field. Duellman assumed the lead at the drop of the green flag, but held it only momentarily as Hughes came powering by on the high side to take control.

Mike Chasteen and Tommy Myer were locked in battle for third just behind the leaders briefly before Chasteen slipped by into third and quickly reeled in Duellman for second. Once Chasteen caught Duellman, he slipped to the inside of Les and stole second away on lap 4.

Myer then began to hound Duellman for third and was able to complete the pass on lap 6 while Chasteen had stormed after Hughes up front and began to pressure Jason for the lead. The race ran non-stop and the leaders began to encounter lapped traffic on lap 15, which made it very interesting up front as Hughes tried to negotiate the back markers, he got hung up on the inside of a slowing machine and was forced to do a break check, which allowed Chasteen to bolt by into the lead on lap 17.

Once out front, Chasteen easily pulled out to a sizeable advantage while Hughes ran a solid second. Myer and Kelly Shryock were now working on each other for third, but Chasteen was too strong as he went on to pick up the $2,000 win ahead of Hughes, Myer, Shryock and Mike Spaulding.
