HUMBOLDT, Kan. -- It may well have been the most exciting USRA B-Mod feature of the year Friday night at the Humboldt Speedway.

It began with Riley Whitworth leading the opening laps. He was then run down and passed by Mike Letterman, who was having a spectacular evening of his own. Letterman then led the next 11 laps, while a dogfight for second erupted behind him. Suddenly, Tim Phillips finds a groove, and begins tracking the leader. However, it’s late in the race, Letterman has a big lead, and one would think that Phillips would end up with a 2014 season-high runner-up.

Well, apparently Phillips didn’t get that e-mail, and in a nearly superhuman effort, not only caught the leader, but passed him, securing Phillip’s first ever Humboldt feature win. A hard fought second went to Mike Letterman, with Riley Whitworth third, Brandon Jones fourth and Dustin Beisley fifth.

In USRA Modified action, Jeremy Chambers was in control for the bulk of the feature, while Gene Hogan racked up a ton of passing points on his way to second place. Dalton Kirk claimed third, Lucas Conley was fourth and Luke Driskell fifth.

Tyler James scored the win in the USRA Stock Car feature race, holding off a strong challenge from runner up David Matlock and third place finisher Patrick Kay. Fourth went to Jeremy Wilson with Ken Colston fifth.

After the regular show, it was the annual mechanics races. Matthew Kay and Matt Morgan were the top duo in Stock Cars, Hunter Hudson took B-Mods, and Ryan Whitworth claimed Modifieds.

Next week is the final night of the 2014 regular season at Humboldt Speedway, with powder puff races following.
