Trevor Hunt takes two in debut of new GRT chassis

KEARNEY, Mo.—Trevor Hunt and his team unveiled a brand new G-14 chassis by GRT Race Cars this past weekend and the result could not have been better.

Competing in two USRA Modified events, Hunt not only qualified for both main events but he led every lap both nights to record two wins in two starts with the new No. 99H machine powered by Spanel Engines.

“This brand new GRT race car is bad fast and I can't thank all of the folks at GRT Race Cars enough,” the 15-year-old Hunt said following his first-ever trip to the winners circle at the Lakeside Speedway in Kansas City, Kan.

Hunt showed the poise and consistency of a veteran as he dominated the 25-lap USRA Modified feature at Lakeside by sticking to the cushion on the high side of the half-mile clay oval. Last year’s USMTS Rookie of the Year encountered lapped traffic by lap 13, but it was no help to his pursuers.

It was more of the same on Saturday at the I-35 Speedway in Winston, Mo. Like the night before, Hunt used his outside front row starting spot to his advantage, launch to an early lead and never looked back.

“You couldn’t ask for anything more,” Hunt said. “We picked the new car up on Monday and had her ready to go for Lakeside Friday. She sure is pretty.”

Although he recorded his first wins of the year, 2014 has already seen a strong start for the 2012 USRA B-Mod Iron Man Challenge champion. In ten previous starts, he had six top-5 and seven top-10 finishes so far. Friday and Saturday’s efforts improved the balance sheet.

The team will look to repeat the feat this weekend with return trips to Lakeside and I-35 this Friday and Saturday, May 9-10, to compete in the USRA Weekly Racing Series.
