Storm creates mess for Red River Speedway; Schedule adjusted
WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- When it rains, it pours; and such was the case last night when a severe thunderstorm swept through the Wichita Falls area containing half-dollar-sized hail, strong winds and heavy rains.
The cell went nearly directly over Red River Speedway (RRS).
As with any construction site, the storm created quite the mess, so track officials are being forced to juggle the posted schedule.
Here is the adjusted schedule for the upcoming weeks:
1. This weekend: no on-track activity. Clean up and construction projects will resume when drying is complete. Another round of storms is forecast for this Saturday night. NOAA currently shows a 50% chance.
2. SUNDAY, MAY 4: Next weekend the only on-track activity will be Open Practice on Sunday. All race divisions are welcome. Pits open at 3PM, Practice from 6PM-9PM (we may start practice earlier, depending on weather conditions, we want track conditions will be more race-like, thus the later start time). All pit passes are $15 for all ages. You can also register your cars on practice night. The Grandstands will be CLOSED on Sunday May 4th.
3. FRIDAY, MAY 9th: Grand Reopening night. The previously scheduled race divisions for May 9th will still be racing, as shown on the schedule. In other words, the Factory Stocks and Pro Stocks scheduled for the original opening night will not be racing – but will still be on May 16th when the USMTS races at RRS.
We’re all anxious to get on the new Red River Speedway and ‘kick a little dirt.’ But last Sunday’s heavy rains coupled with last night’s monster storm have made it impossible to continue getting the track race-ready until it dries, so we’ll just have to let nature take its course, and see you next Sunday ‘twilight’ for Open Practice.
We have some pictures and videos posted from last night’s storm at our website http://www.RRSpeedway.com and our Facebook page http://www.facebook.com/RedRiverSpeedway so you can check out some of the action…even the biggest storm chasers in the country converged over Wichita Falls last night.
We’ve posted a video from StormChasingVideo.com there as well (for you Weather Channel junkies, they’re the ones that submit a lot of their broadcasted footage).

Thanks once again for patience and support of bringing dirt track racing back to Wichita Falls. We look forward to seeing you all at Red River Speedway on Open Practice night, Sunday May 4th at 'twilight'; and for Grand Reopening night the following Friday, May 9th!
