Sanders, Wray, Ross top Johnson Ridge Development Night at I-35 Speedway
WINSTON, Mo. -- Starting on the pole and leading every lap, Zach Sanders never looked back and ran a flawless race for his first victory of the 2014 season in the USRA Modifieds Saturday night at the I-35 Speedway.
Kasson, Minn.’s Darwin Karau made his presence felt, charging from a fourth row outside starting position to finish in second place. Karau battled past the third-place finisher of Trevor Hunt, with fellow Minnesotan Lucas Schott finishing fourth.
Second week with great racing action witnessed week one winner Dennis Elliott recover from an early-race mishap to finish a strong fifth.
Two familiar faces battled again for the top spot in the competitive USRA Stock Car division. “Hollywood” Dean Wray jumped out to an early lead, setting a blistering pace only to see the lead disappear as the #65x of Thomas Roberts would earned the night's top spot.
Wray challenged Roberts often but would have to settle for second place. “Big” Jeff Dixon, from a sixth starting spot, showed poise and patience as he raced his way to third place. the two purple machines of Jake Cameron and Richard Mouton battled it out for fourth and fifth with Cameron claiming the fourth spot.
Back with a vengeance, Doug Keller battled his way to the front of the pack in the USRA B-Mods to claim victory. Keller and Jeremy Pittsenbarger swapped the lead throughout most of the race, entertaining all race fans in attendance.
Pittsenbarger was forced into second as he held off week one winner, Chad Clancy, who placed third. Up and comer Chad “Lead-foot” Feather, mounted another impressive run as he, still celebrating his Border War bonus, ended the night in fourth place. Jacob Bleess, all the way from Minnesota, found the 3/8-mile of dirt to his liking and rounded out the night’s top five.
USRA Hobby Stocks were low in number yet high in quality as the front two cars battled side by side on every lap.
Billie Hoover led all but the last 90 feet as 2014 track champion Mich Ross picked up the win on the last turn, causing Hoover to settle for second.
Newcomer to the USRA Hobby Stock class, Gary Ainsworth, came home third.
The I-35 Speedway thanks all of our loyal fans for braving Mother Nature and enjoying great racing action. The hula-hoops were swinging with all participants declared winners and receiving a trophy. Please join us next week as we invite the Non-Wing Sprint Cars as well as stinky foot races during intermission. Come and witness drivers taking the “Plunge for Landon” to help raise money for a good cause. Look forward to seeing each and every one again for more “Dirt Trackin' at its Best” at the I-35 Speedway.
