Timm and Teske battle for multiple features

SPRING VALLEY, Minn. (Aug. 10, 2002) - On a perfect night for racing a good crowd and 105 filing the pit area the racing action was very fast. The track was perfectly smooth with a nice rubber groove setting up in heat action with very minimal dust in the air. With several misting sessions throughout the night the racing action was very good with multiple grooves showing up throughout the night. Three wide racing was the norm for the first five laps of every feature with two wide racing throughout most of the features. Co-Sponsor's for the night were Van Minsel Auto Body in Spring Valley and Torgerson Auto in Harmony.

The Midwest Modifieds were up first for their feature with Kenny Wytaske starting from the pole and getting the jump on the field for the top spot. Jessie Frerichs followed Wytaske to the second spot from his third starting spot as Neil Eckhart and Albert Wytaske moved into third and fourth respectively. The top six cars started to pull away from the rest of the field as the pack was running two wide With seven laps in Wytaske started to make moves lapping cars as Neil Eckhart moved into the second spot and Albert Wytaske moved into the third spot as Frerichs slipped in three. At the finish it was Kenny Wytaske with his sixth race of the season during the caution free feature.

The super stocks were up next for their feature and not to be outdone by the Midwest Modifieds they also ran their feature without a caution. Dan Nissalke used the pole position to his advantage with the lead on the first lap. Todd Rizer was running a close second and pulled along side Nissalke a couple different times during the first five laps as Mark Teske moved into the third spot. Dave Haberman and Mark Wytaske were in a side by side battle for the fourth spot for three laps with Wytaske taking the advantage. As Teske and Rizer battled for the second spot, Bill Clemens and Jason Johnson were making charges up from the back of the pack. At the halfway point Teske worked into the second spot and Clemens into the top five. Nissalke was running the middle of the track with Teske running the tires on the inside, these two ran side by side for the next five laps in a great battle for the front. Teske finally gained advantage for the top spot and came home with his fifth feature win of the season.

The Open Modifieds were not able to run caution free tonight with Bob Timm starting on the outside of the front row and used the high side of the track to move into the top spot. Behind him the battles were strong with three wide racing occurring for the first three laps. Paul Novotny and Dean Riess were having a good battle for the second position. With two caution flags and five laps in the cars started to run better and Tim Donlinger jumped up to the top of the track in turns one and two as he started his charge up through the field. Jim Arnold was strong early on and battled with LeRoy Scharkey and Steve Wetzstein for the fifth position. With a caution just past half way the running order was Timm, Novotny, Donlinger, Scharkey and Wetzstein and on the restart Donlinger and Novotny battled side by side for the second spot as Novotny and Wetzstein got together with Wetzstein going to the rear. Donlinger continued to work on Timm but to no avail as Bob Timm came home with his third modified feature win of the season.

A very strong field of seventeen Late Models was on hand to do battle and with fresh moisture applied to the track before the start the action was very fast. Mark Teske jumped into his Late Model and looked to have the upper hand on the field with a pass on Jeff Patchen for the top spot. Teske moved down to the lower part of the track and started trying to pull away from the field. Bob Timm fresh off his modified feature win went to the top of the track and battled with Chris Adams and Brad Waits for the fifth position. For one lap the three were three wide in a great battle but Timm was happy with this and finally got the momentum working on the top of the track. Two laps late Timm was in a battle with Patchen for the second spot. Timm was running against the wall on turns one and two and just below the middle of the track in three and four. Teske was running close to the bottom, with Patchen running on the tires. These three ran close enough throughout the final ten laps you could have thrown a blanket over them with Teske just holding enough of an advantage. With two laps to go Timm was finally able to get a really good drive off of two and pulled in front of Teske for the win. The win for Timm was his sixth win of the season in the Late Model and third time this season he has won both the modified and the late model feature in the same night.

Fred Prudaehl took the early lead in the street stock feature with perennial favorites Jeff Brauer and Jim Gustafson starting back farther in the field. Danny Hanson and Ron Rucker were running side by side for the second spot with the rest of the field trying to make their charges through the pack running three wide for the first four laps. On lap three Hanson moved into the top spot with Gustafson moving into the third spot. On the next lap Gustafson moved into second with Prudaehl and Brauer battling for third. Two laps later Gustafson moved along side Hanson and into the top spot with Brauer working into second. With two to go John Bushman and Chuck Nerland were in a strong battle for the fourth spot, but up front there was no stopping "Slim Jim" Gustafson on the way to his tenth feature win of the season. That is a pretty good run when the street stocks have seventeen shows in this season.

The Modified Lites were up for the final feature of the night with Tate Bestor taking the lead from the start. The smooth track allowed for the cars to run three and four wide for the first half of the feature. Jeff Jech started working up through the field and moved into the third spot at the halfway point. The top four drivers started to pull away from the rest of the field with Bestor leading and Daniel Wendt starting to reel in the leader. The leaders started to work into the lapped traffic with Wendt closing in on the bumper of Bestor. Bestor was too strong tonight taking home his first win of the season.
