Horns locked in USRA Modified points going into David Pope Memorial
CRANDALL, Texas -- As if skydivers, fireworks, invaders from throughout the region and a $4,000+ payday weren't enough, not to be forgotten is the USRA Modified division points battle going into championship night during the $27,000 David Pope Memorial at RPM Speedway in Crandall, Texas, on Saturday, Sept. 7.
Two drivers are tied for first place in USRA Modified points, which will further elevate the racing drama throughout the evening. Charlie Smith and Bobby Ruffin, both fielding Hughes Chassis modifieds, will fight it out in the tightest USRA Modified points battle in track history.
It will all come down to the driver that finishes ahead of the other to determine the 2013 track champion, so fans will get to witness this race within a race.
The Sept. 7 race date is now in the long-range forecast, and current trends show seasonal temperatures and dry conditions. Coupled with a 7:45 p.m. sunset, it will make for excellent racing weather and comfortable viewing from the grandstands.
Please note the earlier start times. Every effort will be made to adhere to this schedule:
- Pits open by 3 p.m.
- Draw-in opens at 4 p.m.
- Grandstands open at 5 p.m.
- Mandatory track packing by 6 p.m.
- Hot laps by 6:30 p.m. (they will begin as soon as the track is packed, so it may be earlier)
- Draw cut-off at 6:30 sharp (heats are by passing points, so don't miss out on the draw)
- Opening ceremonies, including skydivers, at 7 p.m sharp.
There are no competitor entry fees or registration fees for new drivers. Pit passes are $30 and adult grandstand ticket prices are the regular price of just $12. Kids 6-12 are $5 and children ages 5 and under are free with adult admittance. Drivers competing in more than one division must purchase a pit pass for each division they are competing in.
The track also has some surprises in store which will not be unveiled until race night, so make plans to arrive early and take in all of the fun.
