SPRING VALLEY, Minn. -- It was a cool and blustery night Saturday for the 11th Annual A&A Electric and Underground Southern Minnesota Spring Challenge at the Deer Creek Speedway. After receiving another four inches of rain a few days earlier, the crew worked hard throughout the week to make smooth racetrack for the night's action for the Iron Man Challenge featuring USRA Stock Cars and USRA B-Mods.

The USRA B-Mods boasted 44 cars on hand to do battle. Points leader Corey Crapser, Brandon Hare and Dan Wheeler raced three-wide out of turn 2 for the lead on the start. Crapser took control of the event while Austin Kaplan rode around the top of the speedway in the fourth spot, looking to gain some momentum as most of the field used the bottom of the track.

A caution with three laps complete saw Crapser leading ahead of Hare and Jacob Bleess. Wheeler sat in fourth with Kaplan working him on the high side. Another caution with 8 laps down saw Crapser take the lead and Bleess moving into second. Hare sat in third while Shaun Walski moved past Kaplan for the fourth spot and then used the middle of the track to overtake Hare for third.

Bleess was all over Crapser up front as another caution flew on lap 11. On the restart, Crapser led with Walski in second and Cody Gardner worked into the top 5. On lap 13, Walski pulled alongside of Crapser, taking over the point on lap 14.

As the checkers flew it was Walski with the win, Crapser in second. Bleess, Gardner and Cole Queensland rounded out the top 5.

Sean Johnson jumped out front in the USRA Stock Car feature with Thursday night’s Iron Man Challenge winner Mitch Hovden in second with Tom Schmitt third. With two laps down, Schmitt moved into second and on lap 3 took the lead.

Lynn Panos took over the third spot behind Johnson while Hovden and Brian Webb rounded out the top 5. With seven laps complete, Hovden got the top side of the speedway working as he moved past Panos and then pressured Johnson for the second spot.

A caution on lap 10 slowed the field and on the restart Hovden blasted around Schmitt to take the lead.  Panos followed through into second while they ran three wide for the fifth spot.

Hovden slowly pulled away from the field to take home the win ahead of Panos, Schmitt, Webb and Steve Jackson.

Up next for the Iron Man Challenge will be a tripleheader featuring both USRA Stock Cars and USRA B-Mods. Rained out Friday night, officials at the Chateau Raceway in Lansing, Minn., will run the make-up “B” mains and “A” main for the USMTS Modifieds on Thursday, June 6, and the two Iron Man Challenge divisions have also been added to the show.

Friday, June 7, takes the series to the Rapid Speedway in Rock Rapids, Iowa, before wrapping up three nights of action at the Upper Iowa Speedway in Decorah, Iowa, on Saturday, June 8. All three nights will also feature USMTS Modifieds on the racing card.
