Superbowl Speedway celebrates 2012 season at awards banquet
GREENVILLE, Texas -- Superbowl Speedway held their 2012 season awards banquet on Saturday, Jan. 26, at the Greenville Civic Center.
The drivers had barbecue provided by Simply Catering, and after dinner there were several door prizes given away.
The 50/50 money and program money is used tp purchase items that the drivers can use on their racecars or to work on their racecars.
Attendees then participated in a game. This year it was "Musical Pillow Case" where the pillow case is filled with items and when the music stops the driver with the pillow case must remove an item and put it on.
The winner won a $400 powdercoat certificate, second place won a gift certificate for a set of bumpers and kick rails, and third place won a $50 Competition Products gift certificate.
Lots of laughs and fun were had at the awards banquet where the top USRA Modified drivers for the 2012 season were honored.
Billy Brierton emerged as the 2012 USRA Modified track champion at the Superbowl Speedway. The Greenville driver also earned an 18th-place finish in the final USRA Weekly Racing Series national points for USRA Modifieds.
Wayne Melton finished second in the final Superbowl Speedway track standings, while Wesley Veal, Jack Franklin and Clyde Dunn Jr. finished third through fifth, respectively. Colby Smith, Steve McMackin, Shawn Gammage, Josh Landers and Billy Carroll rounded out the top 10.
The 2013 racing season at the Superbowl Speedway begins Saturday, March 2. Gates open at 6 p.m. and races start at 8.
