Grays Harbor Raceway USRA Modified Season In Review

ELMA, Wash. -- There was no shortage of thrilling action in the USRA Modifieds in 2012. With several races decided by late race passes as well as multiple terrific green-white-checkered closers gracing victory lane with some top tier talent throughout the season. A total of fifteen races were completed with eight different winners including two drivers winning three times and one winning on four occasions. On October 6th Joe German would earn his second consecutive crown in the classification and held back challengers seeking to end his reign.

“I feel like this year validated our championship because last season when we won the title I didn’t win a feature so it feels great to win the championship and win several races,” commented Joe German from the coastal community of Wishkah near the city of Aberdeen, “Last year was consistency while this years was still consistency but with wins.”

German would obtain the championship in a brand new Skyrocket Chassis from Kelly Shryock and Eric Kirschbaum from their Fertile, Iowa facility to earn his second title in four seasons in the division. He would earn three feature wins, twelve top five finishes, five heat race victories, and two quick times while also earning a trophy dash win.

“I can’t thank enough my sponsors Wishkah Iron Works, Ozman Services Inc., Powertrain Application, MASCO Petroleum, Industrial Dewatering Solutions, Skyrocket Chassis, CCS Industrial Services, K&W Enterprises as well as big special thanks to my crewmen Jason Valencia and Sam Carlisle for all their help this year,” stated German.

Former champion Scott Miller of Shelton ended the year second in the points table. Miller would lead the class in most feature wins breaking the three-way tie between himself, Joe German, and Lawrence O’Conner for most wins in the season. Miller was among the top five finishers in ten features, won five heat races, and was quick time once.

Craig Moore would finish the year out by placing third in the standings. The Seabeck driver managed to accomplish a single feature win in 2012 on top of his twelve top five finishes, six heat wins, three fast times, and single trophy dash triumph.

Former Hobby Stock titlist Tom Sweatman was fourth in final points in a field of stacked competition. Sweatman from Cosmopolis earned a feature win on Memorial Day weekend as well as seven top fives, four heat wins, and two quick time awards.

Young Kyler Moore, son of the aforementioned Craig, completed the top five in points in fifth. The twenty-year-old was a finisher among the top five twice in his first year in the division.
