Grays Harbor Raceway to close out 2012 Saturday

ELMA, Wash. -- Saturday October 6th will be the final event of the 2012 campaign at Grays Harbor Raceway. The weather is expected to be splendid and the action will surely be awesome on the 3/8-mle oval. Classes in competition will be the USRA Modifieds, Hobby Stocks, and Hornets while the Sportsman Sprints make their only visit of the season. The date will mark the first time that the Sportsman Sprints have competed by themselves in the storied history of GHR.

“We have been blessed with this exceptional Grays Harbor weather that we have had this fall and expect to have here for this Saturday's finale,” commented General Manager Nikki Gamell, “we expect to have a great car counts in all classes and can’t wait to crown the rest of our champions.”

" We are also very excited to welcome the first time ever Sportsman class, we hope to see more of them next season," continued Gamell.

“I’ve been coming to Grays Harbor since 1985 and in the years I’ve been we’ve never had a race as late as October,” stated longtime GHR announcer Phil Martelli, “there were times when we would go into late September back when Fred Brownfield operated the place but never into the month of October.”

Headed into the last race defending champion Joe German has a healthy one-hundred-point lead over second place. Lawrence O’Conner has been the driver to beat in USRA Modified competition posting two wins in the last two features bringing his complete win total to three victories. Also joining him on the win list with three triumphs are Scott Miller and Joe German. Tom Sweatman, Zack Simpson, Scott Lenz, Craig Moore, 2012 Shipwreck Beads Northwest Modified Nationals winner Mark Wauge have all one triumph each.

Leading the win column and the points table Jason Tole has the championship in his sights leading second place by ninety-four markers. Tole has accomplished three wins in the last six races including two features in a row to have a total of seven wins in 2012. Brian Harding has a respectable five visits to victory lane while Cory Sweatman is the only other winner with a single win.

Chad Norton leads the point battle in the Hornet division with thirty-two-points separating him from the current runner-up in the table. Jake Mills leads the win column with the triumphs this year. Several drivers have posted more than one victory in 2012 which includes Chad Norton, Brian Norton, Zack Floreck, and last week’s victor Will Wright. Drivers with a single victory include Shane Norton and Kyle Mast.

Saturday night’s admission is the following: Adults $13.00, Senior (62+)/Juniors (15-18)/Military $10.00, Youths (6-14) $5.00, Youths (5 and Under) FREE, Family Pass (Two Adults and Up To Four Youths) $30.00, and Premium Seating $20.00. Gates open at 2:30 for the pits and 4:30 for the grandstands with racing starting at 6:30.

After the event there will be one more race left on the 2012 schedule. Saturday October 6th will mark the final race of the year and will be championship night for the USRA Modfieds, Hobby Stocks, and Hornets while Sportsman Sprints will be in the house.

The Grays Harbor Raceway is known for its high speeds and side by side racing as well asits large size.
