German gets third USRA Modified win at Grays Harbor
ELMA, Wash. -- Joe German of Wishkah is on quite the hot streak earning his second consecutive win in the USRA Modifieds and scoring his third win overall in 2012. The most-recent triumph occurred during the Open Wheel Showdown presented by AMP Energy on Saturday, Aug. 25. The race was full of great action despite German leading all but one lap.
On the initial start a great battle for the lead, but the race would see its first caution come out due to a multicar wreck. On the second attempt to get a lap into the books rookie Kyler Moore of Seabeck in the DNC Competition Engines/Highway Specialties #14K Dirtworks lead the first lap when the yellow would come out for a stopped car in turns three and four.
On the restart Joe German was there to take over the lead from Moore. He kept the Wishkah Iron Works/Ozman Service Inc. #75X Skyrocket out in front for the rest of the way. However that did not mean it was without challenge.
German would be making way through traffic splendidly, but his lead would be dissolved on lap sixteen when Steve Signal of Olympia in the J.D.Fabrication/Evergreen Valley Tractor #47 got upside down after Tom Sweatman from Cosmopolis got together with him in the Sweatman Trucking/Image Signs #11. On the restart a three-car battle ensued towards the front.
Not only was it a three-car battle, but it was three former champions going for the win. German, Scott Miller of Shelton, and Craig Moore from Seabeck would all be clumped together awaiting a mistake from another.
German managed to keep all challengers in check as Scott Miller was passed by Craig Moore on lap twenty-seven. Unfortunately later in the race Moore in the DNC Competition Engines/Highway Specialties #14 Dirtworks would get sideways in turns and three.
That would set things up for a green-white-checkered scenario. Scott Miller would try his best to put his Blue Bear Park/Blondie’s Restaurant #26 Dirtworks in the lead but Joe German accomplished the mission for the win and now is tied for most wins in 2012 with Miller.
Scott Miller would finish in second place while the third-place finisher would be young Kyler Moore. The top five was completed with Zack Simpson of Hoquiam in the Jacknut Apparel/CNK Machine #12 Shaw in fourth and Craig Moore managed to muster a fifth-place finish.
Craig Moore was quickest in time trials with a time of 17.475 seconds among the seventeen machines on hand. The two heat races were won by Craig Moore and Joe German.
The USRA Modifieds will be back in action on Saturday, Sept. 8. After the early September race there is only two races left in the 2012 season. For more information about Grays Harbor Raceway be sure to visit their homepage at www.graysharborraceway.com.
