HUMBOLDT, Kan. -- The heavy hitters were all in place for Friday's Ray's Metal Depot USRA B-Mod race at the Humboldt Speedway.

Starting inside pole for the event, current USRA B-Mod points leader Jimmie Davis (aka "Jim Bob") had 'em covered. At the green, Davis tore off into the lead, leaving behind a dog fight between some talented drivers for position.

A caution tightened up the field mid-race. At that point, Jeremy Chambers, whose starting spot due to a miserable heat race wasn't all that great, started a spectacular run.

Chambers was in third when another caution flew, this time with two laps to go. Green again with Davis driving his butt off on hot worn tires, Chambers in second and coming on like a cruise missle. White flag, their door to door for the lead, first Davis, then Chambers, then Davis again, as they flew into turn 3.

Off turn 4, the crowd on their feet, Chambers hooks the wall with the right rear quarter panel and Davis wins. Jack Simmons snuck in for second while Chambers luckily finished third ahead of Curt Drake and Tim VanGotten.

In the USRA Modified feature, Johnny Bone Jr. qualified for the outside pole, and from there did what he dies best: drive to victory. But boy, what a race for second.

It was Randy Zimmerman for the bulk of the wire-to-wire race, until a neat move by John Allen put Allen in the second spot. Then it became a duel between Jess Folk Jr. and Zimmerman for third.

Right down to the wire, Folk persevered for third. Zimmerman was a very close fourth and Chase Sigg rounded out the top 5.
