FORT DODGE, Iowa -- Lance Deal and Tyler Droste scored the victories Tuesday night as the USRA Industrial Material Surplus Iron Man Challenge invaded the Mineral City Speedway in Fort Dodge, Iowa.

Both drivers started their respective main events from the outside of the front row, but neither driver’s road to the winners circle was easy.

For Droste, it was his third win of the season at the popular half-mile clay oval, and his second in five days after winning Friday’s feature during Fan Appreciation Night at the track. The 16-year-old from Waterloo had to hold off a late charge from Boone’s Eric Elliott to take home the $500 winner’s paycheck.

Polesitter Jenae Gustin of Marshalltown had her best showing in an Iron Man event with a third-place finish while Josh Bonnstetter of Slayton, Minn., and Trevor Fecht of Allison rounded out the top 5 finishers.

Iron Man points leader Trevor Hunt dropped out early with mechanical woes, but the 13-year-old phenom from Liberty, Mo., continues to lead the rankings. From here, the USRA B-Mod drivers will embark on a big swing through Northern Iowa and Southern Minnesota as they accompany the USMTS Modifieds to three of the four events this week.

The Industrial Material Surplus Iron Man Challenge featuring USRA B-Mods will be in action Thursday at the Fairmont (Minn.) Raceway; Friday at the Highway 3 Raceway in Allison, Iowa; and Saturday at the Upper Iowa Speedway in Decorah, Iowa.

Each event will pay $500 to win for the USRA B-Mods.

Tuesday night’s USRA Stock Car feature race was no less exciting. Steve Jackson started on the pole with Deal on his right, and it was Deal getting the advantage at the drop of the green flag. Jackson, however, fought back to steal the top spot away from Deal on lap 6.

Meanwhile, Wayne Crimmins moved quickly through the field and into second place while last year’s winner at Fort Dodge, Jake Masters, battled with Tory Reicks for fourth.

With 12 laps in the books, Deal made his move to the front while Crimmins lost control and spun away his chances of a victory. With Jackson chasing, Deal held on for the final eight circuits to earn his first Iron Man trophy and a $700 payday.

Jackson, Masters and Reicks finished second, third and fourth while Churdan’s Jason Minnehan mixed it up with the leaders late in the race and garnered a fifth-place finish.

Jackson holds the points lead for the USRA Stock Cars with a slight advantage over Tom Schmitt and Reicks.

The next Iron Man Challenge event featuring the USRA Stock Cars will be Thursday, July 26, at the Deer Creek Speedway in Spring Valley, Minn., when they will join the USMTS Modifieds at the 2nd Annual World Modified Dirt Track Championship presented by Hanson Tire Service.
