Sweatman closes out Grays Harbor weekend in victory lane

ELMA, Wash. -- In the final race of the Spring Showdown at the Grays Harbor Raceway fans were brought another action-packed evening of racing on the ultra-fast 3/8-mile oval. The American Sprint Car Series Northwest Region was on hand as well as the USRA Modifieds and Hobby Stocks.

In the USRA Modified feature, Tom Sweatman of Cosmopolis earned his first feature win of the season including sweeping the evening’s events after a late-race caution occurred including the leader at the time, Matt Mitchell of Vancouver, with a couple of laps to go.

It broke a streak of several runner-up finishes for Sweatman.

Defending champion Joe German of Aberdeen finished in second place while Seabeck driver Craig Moore finished in third.

The fourth- and fifth-place finishers were Chris Beaulieu of Campbell River, B.C., Canada, and Zack Simpson of Hoquiam.

Fast time of the evening was Sweatman and the winners of the heat races were Sweatman, Simpson and German.

Next week the Grays Harbor Raceway returns to action for the popular Fan Appreciation Night which will include 360 Sprints, USRA Modifieds, USAC Ford Focus Midgets, Hobby Stocks and Hornets in action.
