BANKS, Ore. -- With a promising forecast and anxious race teams and fans it does indeed look as if the long awaited season opener at the Sunset Speedway Park will take place on Saturday May 12th. After all of the bad weather and rain-outs it appears the current weather has decided to cooperate and bring about the racing season to the Banks venue. The two consecutive Saturdays have only seen practicing at the facility due to the weather not allowing a race to occur yet.

Classes in action will be the Northwest Extreme Sprint Car Series, USAC Ford Focus Midgets, USRA Modifieds, Street Stocks, and 4-Bees. Front Gates open up at 3:30 with racing scheduled to start at 6:00 on Saturday night. Admission is the following prices: Adults are $14, Seniors $10, Children (6-12) $5, Children (5 and Under) FREE, and Family Pack (2 Adults and 2 Children) $30.

In 2011 Randy Allen won the first Street Stock feature of the year and went on to win seven more features including the Jim’s Thriftway 100. Veteran Steve Suckow captured the first Modified event of last season but Kenny Miller had a hot streak at the end of the year winning three of the last four features.

A look ahead in the schedule for May 19th will have the Northwest Wingless Tour back along with the PHRA Dwarf Cars, Pure Stocks, Womens, and 4-Bees. The 26th and 27th will feature a doubleheader for Memorial Day weekend with the Northwest Extreme Sprint Car Series, USRA Modifieds, Street Stocks, and Pure Stocks. On the 26th the Tracers will be in action for that night and only on the 27th will fans see the Womens classification be racing that weekend.

The Sunset Speedway Park is located just west of the Portland metro area in Banks on the Sunset Highway.
